Lone angler

your not paying for the name your paying for it been British made and I would guess if you have a problem with any of it then it will be sorted quicker plus its rehashed Mike bought out Pallatrax so they all come under one banner plus I can personally vouch for Dan's angling ability

I totally agree, it's up to the vendor to set a price they think the market will bear, the customer then has a choice to pay it or to look elsewhere.
Celebrity endorsement has always been used to boost a products desirability as has the kudos associated with buying something others might think was a little expensive, it's how premium brands have been marketed for years.

These guys are offering a premium product and asking a premium price, it's called niche marketing, if you want cheap gear then Used Tackle have some excellent bargains.
 
I'm all for supporting the British trade but its down to how much dosh ive got to spend in my pocket at the present economic climate, it may be British it may be top quality but too dear for me, nothing against any of them but in my opinion its very expensive though prob very good quality but not for me thanks
 
Well after years of posts about "what landing net handle" "drennan twistlock wont lock" threads. An alternative is offered up, looks beefy, well built but the price is wrong.

Ahh the fickle barbel angler are they ever happy, I would suggest not.

There are a lot of read herrings being served up here at the moment, probably because barbel are not on the menu just at the moment :D.

Patrick, the 'alternative' landing net handle you mention has been well described on this thread by previous owners. I have never seen it myself, but going by those descriptions it is an excellent tool, does the job well, and is bullet proof. Sadly...it also happens to weigh a ton! One user jokingly describing it as capable of being used as a lawn roller, another saying it weighs more than all his rods and rest's put together! It was mentioned by some that for that reason, they no longer use it. So, it would seem that for all practical purposes, the thing is good...very good...but too heavy for most to want to use.

Now, the fact is, anyone....certainly any tackle manufacture, could make a landing net handle you could drive a van over (as has been mentioned) by judicious use of suitable materials, and it wouldn't cost too much....but sadly, it would be very heavy...which no doubt is why others haven't bothered :rolleyes: That such a tool is on sale once again, but now apparently at an inflated price....is surely a fair enough reason for some folk to state that they won't be buying it. I don't call that fickle...I call it common sense, based on two sound pieces of logic.

For those that want one of these poles, fine....the choice is theirs, no more need be said. If some also choose to buy any/all of the other items of gear that this company will sell, that also is fine, again their choice, job done. However I do feel it's a bit rich (no pun intended) to criticise (as you and others have done) those who would rather not buy this item because of the weight factor...or who just plain can't afford the prices being advertised. Surely people are entitled to make those decisions, and explain their reasons why....on a forum designed to accommodate just that...without fear of criticism for doing so? I would think it a sad day if not!

That the people involved in this company are superb anglers, hugely popular and very nice guys....and people that everyone wishes the best of luck to in their venture....is NOT a good enough reason to criticise others for expressing their logical, reasonable thoughts on the matter....in my opinion......

Oh for the love of God, what are you going on about? Describing Trefor West in such a way that he would probably squirm. He has done a lot of guiding for money, and no doubt made a few bob from occasional tv appearances, as well as his books and articles too. He is no Mother Teresa , just a bloke that loves barbel fishing first and foremost, get real.

i have a opinion and most seem to agree;)

you've not even put a opinion across on the subject:rolleyes: your mate ian beale will defend you as being a good angler for which i don't care!

it's been mentioned that trefor as made money through his angling and if lads want to pay for a day's fishing(its free with me by the way) then that's upto them and i know of lads who have and learn't loads with trefor!

i did mention his book in my previous post and i also enjoyed tony's book's which were hand signed;)
my advice was to the newbie barbel angler's who are struggling and think that these new baits will solve all their problem's.

now just to clarify this again in my opinion the bait is over priced as is the other item's they are selling.
i like the idea of english manufacturing and you pay for quality.(i understand this)

my post's are not a attack on any of the lads behind the lone angler name!
 
OMG ! Doesn't the close season bring out the best in banter !! Anyway, back to the over-expensive, re-hashed Double T gear sold by those two nice fellas:):):)

P.S-Secretly glad to see the Sausage Sizzle range extented, it always worked for me ;)

Its not re-hashed Double T gear, I was a big supporter of Double T gear and still have bags, rod quiver, unhooking mats etc which have lasted over ten years and brought at a good reasonable prices.

I'm confused ! I thought Double T did a lightweight quiver, rig wraps, hemp bucket, reel cover, etc , etc ( In fact I know, I had a fair few bits from the range ) Same designs, different livery....and prices it would seem. But hey, British made gear tends to come at a premium !

I second that Neil, at the end of the day Trefor or any other angler who is in the press a fair bit is JUST another angler, yeh he has a bit of success hence why he and others are in the press. If he cuts his leg open barbel blood won't come out!!

Reminds me of a funny thing I witnessed at fishtec at brecon once. Matt hayes was visiting on what I think was a business trip, one bloke had already asked for his autograph and I was exiting the shop and had to get past him. As I passed him he looked up and put his hand out as if to accept a piece of paper to sign (which definetly wasnt there). I walked past him and left the shop, the look on his face was priceless. A proper mitty moment;)
 
I can fully understand getting a book signed but collecting autographs !!!! aint that a teenage thing ? and not like proper famous

I can really sympathize with Matt on this occasion. It so happens that I am the spitting image of Bob Roberts and I have had many days angling ruined because of persistent autograph hunters. Please; if you see a famous angler on the banks, respect his privacy and leave him to enjoy his fishing in peace,
 
I can empathise Richard,whilst quietly fishing people often come upto me curious as to why Brad Pitt is sat waist deep in mud n s××t on the Tidal Trent.
