Richard, Its definitely 4" and silver. Tried it yesterday for ledgering in fast moving water and was very impressed (stiff ratchet) and then I used it today for trotting...again very impressed. Tried to get another one today but apparently Dragon Carp have run out of stock, but they'll be getting some more in soon.
Thanks for that, Andreas and Dave. As I wrote earlier, my Ikonix is definitely 4.25" and a different colour......so the conclusion must be that there are possibly three sizes. Not groundbreaking stuff gents, obviously, but I was just a little intrigued
didn't the X PIN come in 2 sizes 4,and 4.5, my xpin says 4.1/4..
but anyway, just think fishtec were selling these for £109 years ago,
now £30..
either way, it's good for the money.David and George...I didn't even oil mine. I spun it straight out of the box. I did give it a strong flick to be fair but it kept going until circa 2min 40 sec. (in fact I had to do it a few times because I kept losing concentration whilst watching telly and forgot to stop the clock).
Not that spin is the be and end all of a centrepin but that's how long it spun for...maybe I got lucky somehow?
Not fished with one of these , but if George [ Lockhart ] says there a decent reel then thats good enough for me as George knows his pins . What I would say is that I had a spin of one of these in my local shop , the bearing sounded very rough and this was on a new reel . I haven't read all this thread but it might be wise to take advice as to what to oil/ grease this reel with . The cheap phillips screw on the back of the reeel does let things down on the cosmetic front a bit

access road, you have me at a loss mate? I think I know where your talking about but havent been down there for well over 12 months now so couldnt say Ive moved sticks and replanted further north now for my grayling fishing on the tees, a bit more secluded and less interest from the rent a fishmonger who wants to kill everything they catch for some reason unbeknown to me.That is a heck of a session on that section George, is the access road to the stretch any better than earlier in the year? Last time I was down I think your old RAF mates had been using it for bombing practice. I've not been back since as I feared for the suspension on my old charabang. With the weather turning colder I was wanting to give it another try and might even park in the right spot this time, I stopped at the first car park last time by mistake.

not many negative points with it at all and for £36 definately worth every penny.
George, What would you say the negative points are then?
Having never owned a 'pin before i wouldn't really know what to look out for. Heard mentioned a line guard, is this essential?
