Perch

Well done Mark aka Mr Fish, thats a great photo who took that? Brilliant to witness that mate. Been chuffed all week myself! Some amazing fish on here I am definately going to do more perch fishing.

Now I'll come clean, I detest perch with an unrivaled passion, always have always will. To me they serve only one purpose to an angler (a desperate one:)), saving a blank...

But this maybe of some interest to those that have some appreciation for them.

While chub fishing last night I took one of 3-14 on a paste wrapped Elips pellet, both the pellet and the paste were heavily flavoured with hot chilli and obviously a very oily fishy stinking mess.
That I could pass off as a rogue suicidal fish but next cast produced a 2-08 perch. No twitches knocks or plucks just solid lunges on my tip, so a crayfish hanging onto my bait is doubtful(?).

Was it the oil, the fishy stench or perhaps the chilli?? This happened at 8.30pm(ish).

You lucky git, Colin!

I've been trying for one of that size for the past couple of weeks and have failed miserably, with only 2lbers to show for my efforts! That's what I get for using lobs and maggots!

Stu, trust me when the fat slug rolled into my net "lucky" wasn't my first thought and when the second one wallowed in the air went pretty blue.:D

To add insult too injury, I never caught a chub.:(

Paul, remember that in 'Catching the Impossible,' Martin Bowler caught that massive five-pound river perch on a pole (using a cralusso float). He couldn't have positioned his bait anywhere near the desired spot using rod and line. I've got several poles (and the floats) but have yet to try them on moving water probably because I've been fortunate enough to catch fish like these on 'normal' gear this year (3lb 7oz and 2lb 3oz):

There's always next season......

Them scales of his have been iffy ever since he stuck em in the freezer overnight :D :D :D

Said scales are somewhere in the Thames, thanks to a fat assed mirror carp. A truly gutting experience, took me an age trying to find a set of scales that told the weights I wanted.:D

Stu, the lucky one was definitely the perch, 'lucky' I don't carry a filleting knife river fishing.:D
It was weighed purely out of curiosity, not having ever caught a slug of that size before.

Anthony,

Ive kept that episode on my sky box. 5lb perch, 30lb plus pike and 10lb plus tench and shaking on the capture of every one. Quality. :D

Still looking for a pole set up if you can recommend, just dont tell anyone. ;)

Nice brace of perch there mate, proper fish with lots of colour. Not like those bland looking things Colin fishes for. ;)

I hope that I have attached a photo of a 3.01 I caught on a lob worm on cane & pin. It was the biggest one of about 20 caught on the last weekend.
Happy day,
Bob
