Congratulations................

Like I said, townie is an attitude rather than a geographical generalisation and some people who live in towns are countrymen at heart even though they will never truly fit in or understand the country just as few if any country born and raised folks will never be truly comfortable in a city. And I'm not having a go here, unless you have spent a night or two in a lambing shed in February or followed the hunt or eaten pork you have raised yourself or watched your neighbour burn his pedigree milking heard built over three generations through foot and mouth (twice) or pulled at a young farmers summer ball or any one of a thousand other things you wont truly be a countryman. And to suggest country lads would ignore what we used to call 'the country code' is laughable, for one thing they know better than to dump on their own doorstep and for another they, their friends, or close family are the ones who have to clear up after these thoughtless louts and pay the vets bill for the cow which eats the carrier bag.

therfore Adrian dont think that all Townie,s would leave **** behind,
Untill you have worked in the city and cafted for living and learnt to appreciate the countryside like we have dont call us.
I took great offence of the comments made and I am not a true country man but like to think i am ;)
Remember where your bread and butter is and thats attracting the townie into the countryside to spend his hard earned cash to keep the deflating countryside villages afloat ;)
Nothing at you personally but at the general assumptions being made of a "townie". I have never in my life called a country bumkin a thiko or slow but one could start to assume they all are!
As for your analergy about the "poor" farmer would you like to here of the townie that went to Northern Ireland in the 1980s to loose 11 mates blown to pieces to watch crows in the field eat there bodies before the all clear was given to but 2 arms 2 legs etc into each body bag,,,, come on pal its a fishing forum not a townie verses counrypeeps!
As a unionist and a charity worker I have never thought of people being different because of there backgrounds, country men and townies are no different especially when they are both fishermen :D

Do you actually read any of these posts John or do you just get fixated on a word? How many times do I have to say it, 'townie is an attitude rather than a geographical generalisation'.
You also seemed to get fixated on the bit in my post about the foot and mouth while choosing to ignore the positive bits about being country born and bred. Try reading the whole thing again with an open mind to see the true meaning in my post. As for comparing service records, check out my avatar, it's not there by accident you know.

To be honest , to answer you,

fixated on a word

because it should not have been said and its offensive
end off!

Say it, and accept retaliation ok country bumkin

as for the Avatar its not a badge i know as there are no wings ;) but respect if you served :)

Hi
to sum up, well done to Martyn lloyd for highlighting the issue.
What a racist un-provoked statemnt throughout from Adrian, hence why threads end up like this!
End of Like Martyn did, hopefully we will all take rubbish left by other anglers whatever race they are .
regards john

As my old Drill Sgt used to say, 'Once more for the hard of understanding',

"Townie is an attitude rather than a geographical generalisation".

While I was in the shower a few minutes ago my mind went back to an old Coronation Street episode [do all anglers file these random bits of information about fishing] when several of the regulars went on an opening night binge drinking session, Episode 3240 (17th June 1991) - Corriepedia - Coronation Street, UK soap opera, for many summer anglers this is the reality of their fishing, these are the people who leave this mess, and the fact is most of them do live in inner cities and treat the riverbank [and many carp lakes] as an extended beer garden with the advantage of no police or cameras watching there every move.

Rather than get offended by a word you should get offended by the rubbish left behind by mindless morons who should stay on the pasty filled commercials which spawned them and stop defending the indefensible by throwing up a smokescreen of pseudo outrage against a word. I could just as easily have substituted Townie with chav, pikey or twot; would you have been as outraged then?

As for the badge it's a veterans badge, if you served in any of the forces you are entitled to it. Google it, apply for it and wear it with pride.

Just seen the post above, Who mentioned race? certainly not me, Someone needs to take a reality check. :(

I'm off for a few days on the beach, hopefully by the time I come back common sense will have returned to this forum and people will stop being so precious.

i fish an urban stretch of river,,ive often wondered how much id get at the scrappy for all the spam, corn and stella tins i find in some parts, sad endictment of society today, this stuffs not left by proper anglers ,but the usual noddies who hit the river/lake banks when the sun comes out and the temperature reaches 20c--solar powered cretins,,who i agree see the waterside as an extention of the beer garden..
Ade,admitting to watching corrie is bad enough, but remembering an episode 21 years ago!!!:D

I had similar thoughts about Ade owning up to that myself Iain, but kept quiet for fear of raising the temperature of an already warmish thread :p

However, joking apart, I must say I quite agree with Ade and yourself in the summing up of the type of louts who are responsible for the majority of these sickening displays of moral redundancy. Carp angling used to see a rash of these morons each summer....fine weather feck-wits, brain dead a-holes, call them what you may (I thought better of adding pond life to the list :p). I cannot for the life of me see why sunshine brings them out to play...you would think that creatures that crawl out from under a stone would baulk at it

Cheers, Dave.

I went fishing yesterday at a local park lake in Liverpool, There were these 3 country bumkins, ( i new that cos they were chewing straw and saying ooh arr !!! ) The 3 p***s were bevvied off their heads, cider cans all over the bank, one even had a cr@p in front of the decent townie folk. WHY DO THESE BUMKINS DO IT. Why can,t they **** *** back to where they belong. BUMKINS DO MY ******* head in.

There you go Ade, how does that feel. A word is a word. Right ?

Apologies to the Admin/Mods. But what he posted was bang out of order.

John Young, well done sir for speaking your mind.

I have ALWAYS respected the countryside, one of the first items i pack is a litter bag, any rubbish i find goes in it, reguardless who has left it.

After this thread, i think i will take lessons in how to be a true "TOWNIE" and leave s***e everywhere in the countryside, to get my own back on these BUMKINS, there you go Ade.

P.S. i drive a hackney cab in Liverpool, i get the utmost respect from the Townies, who keep their food wrapped up till they get home. Guess what, we gets lots of BUMKINS visiting the city for a night out, NO RESPECT from them at all, kebabs, burgers, chips etc etc all over the back of the cab, not to mention the puuk, i wish they would all **** ***, cos there making our city, and my cab, dirty and smelly. I,d hate to see the homes they live in. Have a nice day. :)

Would be nice if this thread didn't descend any further with this pointless bickering please gents ! Townies, bumpkins, whatever ! The point here are the mindless idiots who leave this kind of thing and end up spoiling it for everyone ! What stuns me, is that they've bagged it up ! If you can be bothered to do that then surely taking it home is not much more effort ?!? Especially as its lighter when empty ?!?

hypocrite

do you mean those country folk that pump cow **** into the rivers when the townies arent about, the same ones that leave bits of bailing twine everywhere, spread muck all over the feilds year after year when it doesnt need it ,yea there the ones that look after there patch of country side !

Whoa Neddy

Look guys, I don`t give a damn whether the folks who leave rubbish are `townies` or `bumpkins`. They can be whatever nationality or colour they want to be and from whatever planet they choose.

The simple fact is that someone who should know better has decided to spend a day in the countryside and leave their mess for someone else to remove.

Ade, to be concise you're a pl*nker. You say Townie is an attitude rather than a geographical generalisation but you actually use a geographical description to describe an attitude. PLUS in a completely general manner.

I'm a so called townie and I have a good attitude towards cleaning up after myself. So why do you have a good given right to blanket all townies as having a bad attitude?

You've actually proved you are less educated than all townies (with bad attitudes), chavs (with bad attitudes) and pikeys (with bad attitudes) put together. The very people you hate. How funny.

Just found this quote by Ade in a previous post! Say's it all really.

I always liked the Roman idea of decimating the populations of countries they had beaten in battle as a way of ensuring civil obedience. We could do a similar thing here by issuing the police with a humane killer and shooting on sight every tenth person caught in an anti social act, be it littering, graffiti, spitting in the street or just being an ashole. They would only have to execute a couple and show the bodies on tea time news for the message to go out that this behaviour is no longer acceptable......I'd start with that urban vandal Banksy.

Was fishing on the Loddon yesterday eve. A choice swim, a really picture postcard swim, under a big tree, on a bend that sweeps alongside reeds, under a tree stump and then bends into a long gravel run before deepening out and gliding under willows. The whole stretch is like a Constable painting. June 17. What do I find? large empty tin of sweetcorn with the lid discarded a few yards away and pepperoni stick wrappers. It's sacrilege. It puts all anglers in a bad light.

I'm a townie by the way. But I grew up 'in the country' . It makes no difference where you're from. Some people are lazy and don't give a sh*t. Some of them live in towns and some of them live in the country.

RDAA have a enforcable rule about being responsible for any litter (yours or not) that is within 10 yards of where you're fishing, you have to pick it up and get rid of it properly - you can get chucked out for it. It's a good rule. Hopefully most clubs apply this rule too. This wasn't an RDAA water by the way.

Nick

As I've already said :- Please don't let it descend any further !
The issue here has nothing to do with where you/they come from ! It's to do with respect and realistically common sense ! You see this more and more these days and it exasperates me ! What difficulty is there in taking it home ? If you carried cans/bottles etc down there full, surely it's no effort to take them back empty ? The true out come of this will either be clubs losing their fishing rights and syndicates taking over and then people will moan about the lack of open club access ! It will happen !
