-9 faranheight Barbel

Ummmmm! take some proper scales with you next time!

Bit of a cheek you've got. What makes you so great at guessing the weight of a fish with the photo alone that you can go around knocking other people's posts?
Everybody knows apart from yourself that in some photo's the fish can look pounds under their given weight, ive found this to be more so with Pike.
Give people a break and get a Life.

Totally agree with the above post....it is hard to discern a specimen's weight simply on photographic evidence alone. Didn't post pictures of my PB barbel due to the fact they were of poor quality & didn't do the fish justice...which would have possibly led to some posters questioning my honesty & integrity.

An individual who augments a weight of a fish is ultimately deceiving themselves,in my opinion & will be denied a genuine sense of achievement if they are fortunate enough to eclipse this fictional fish in the future.

Kind Regards
Andy

Had lots of Pm's. The reason I took them of was because it was unfair for the two individuals (who caught the fish) to have others basically doubting their captures when they don't post on here..

Now the first pike pulled the scales down to their max 28lb so thats the weight we have given it. IMO it was a good 4lb heavier. It was very broad across the back.

The second fish was 21lb 10oz.

Good to see the photos back on there mate pm you back . Looks like I catch up to you in Feb

Wonderful fish Graham, thanks for sharing them with us. You have just made up my mind that i need to get "back down there" with my pike gear before the season is out!

Cracking pike Graham, thanks for putting back up, I didn't see them before, still waiing for my first twenty!!

Lovely fish Graham. I must say I never did do much in the way of piking, but wonderful pictures of fish like this do make my rod arm twitch a bit.

Cheers, Dave.

Fish in top photo has a very large head for it's body, at least that's the way the photo makes it look so it could go even bigger. The pike in the second photo is a wonderfully proportioned fish. Two fantastic river pike.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Hi Alex. It does look a little like that from the pic, but in fact the fish was well proportioned excellent shape, quite fat and very broad across the shoulders.

This pic (for the pike police - sans mat) shows the comfirmation better

Now me and Graham Elliot have not always seen eye to eye, that's a fact, but I don't doubt his integrity or honesty, and as professional guides of many years ,both, lying about weights or fish is hardly conducive to reputations or more importantly as individuals.

I held back from commenting when Geoff Blakesly cast aspersions on my Pike weight earlier in the thread, thinking ,"Am I bovverd ,what he thinks",and as it was weighed and photographed ,netted by Ryan Lippitt ,young Pallatrax Star, that was good enough for me,and as I am 6-3 and 18 stone, holding it close to me ,thought most folk would accept it was what it was. Most do ,by the way.

Now Graham is having the same treatment from Colin Gordon.

Geoff,Colin you are a pair of plonkers that should have stripes on your arms denoting Pike and dare I say it Barbel Police .
For the record ,am going to recommend promotion for both of you to full officers ,Chief Supers in your respective areas .

Get out and catch a few fish ,then we can have pleasure of doubting them too.

Proportional representation!!!

Hey Up 'Topher,

Well said! I did think earlier today, when I actually caught up with this thread, that the Mr. Geoff guy could not possibly know you (or your dimensions) to be making such a comment. Seeing as how I haven't seen you in the flesh for a couple of years, I did think possibly that you had erred on the low side of '30' with the weight...... mind you the Taliban scarf does tend to push up the chin(s) a tad.:)

I was most impressed though with Ryan's photograph, the light, tones and hue are probably unbelievably 'warm' for whatever the day's temperature was.... and the grin is still decievably cherubic.:p

Stay 'lucky', same as Keith Speer, and keep producing the goods (and that's a joke, the reference to Keith for those who would wish to start picking-the-bones).

Regards,
Mike

Sir Mike,
Well I did set up the camera in full manual mode for young Ryan, the light was fab ,and his hand is super steady unlike me ,I need VR or IS these days.

As for the grin, well even gnarled old hacks like me get lucky sometimes,Ryan was more excited than me !Hes a great young angler ,Pallatrax are helping him now, keen as mustard.

Will have to catch a Taliban 30 down there, that would be something!:)

Happy New Year and Tally Ho till I see you next.:)

Pons, my post was in NO way a bitch at Graham, to the contrary, it states clearly that I believed the fish to be "a bloody big 22lber"
Therefore implying that I thought it was definitely bigger!!

The rest of that post is clearly (well so I believed) offering further fodder for Dave Hall and his snipes at the claimed weights attributed to fish.
Here is a copy of said post:

Bloody big 22lber I'd say.

Here Dave, if you're desperate for a bit of snipe material, comment on this guy's 7lb chub: http://www.nashtackle.co.uk/ "

And if you wish me to place aspersions against a fellow angler, tough, view the link provided for Dave Hall and go do it for yourselves...:p

Graham, that second photo certainly does the fish justice, terrific condition.

For what it's worth Chris, I took Colin's comment to mean he felt the fish was much more than 22lb, thereby not casting doubt on Grahams claim but supporting it.
It sure does in the second photo!!

Afternoon all,

Having spent a fair time in the company of GE and also big Chris, I can confidently state two things:

1. Neither would lie about a fish's weight - they are both honest, perhaps too honest on occasions, and have been around the block long enough to know that exaggeration is pointless.
2. Both buy their waders from the aisle marked 'for the taller and/or larger gentlemen', and this is often reflected in their photographs. As a lithe 15-stoner myself, I share their pain...

Thanks for sharing the pictures, chaps, I've not had a 'twenty' for over two months now, but the urge has returned.

best,

Jon

The only time I get bothered about weights is when folk make ridiculous river record claims on crappy ill taken shots on camera phones,or submit them to the comics at stupid weights trying to win gear or drennans.

I have taken a few to task over the years for such practice, but pics like mine or grahams are posted for enjoyment and encouragement to get folk out there when other species are easier to catch .

Cheating and deceit are horrible bedfellows, and do make me angry.
