Nice account Howard. A bit of this used to go on at the bottom of the Dalston beat back when I last fished it three seasons back, never had any run-ins myself thank god. Not sure I'd have had the balls to get the authorities involved, mainly because I used to be there on my own for 24 hrs with...
Wasn't trying to come over all 'holier than thou', I've had plenty of blanks in the past that have frustrated the hell out of me. However my recent lay off has put much of that in perspective, as I imagine has yours. Luckily illness hasn't played a part in me missing any fishing as yet, just...
Hi Paul
Sorry to hear of your travails, I believe the Thames can be a hard mistress at times.
My last bite came on the 1st March 2013. It was a small chub of about 3lb and came at last knockings. My last barbel bite came on 30th July 2011! I let my son land that one, she went 10lb 9oz.
I've...
I've not been fishing in over a season so it feels like a bloody long journey!
Given that I used to travel down to my folks on the train before getting a lift to the Wasing I'd say about 2hrs 30mins was my average one way.
I've also done Barton Court on the train from south east London...
Evening all
I'm off to France this summer for the family hols. We're staying close to Angles Sur l'Anglin which is handy for both l'Anglin and Gartempe rivers.
I can't find anything about either containing barbel but was wondering if anyone here has experience of these rivers? Can't find...
Been a while since I posted on here, not in the least because I've had a few seasons of inactivity, including not wetting a line once last season. So it seems a little cheeky to come on here to mention that a good friend of mine has just had his first angling book published. Even more so due to...
A couple of years ago I made an aborted attempt to get into rod restoration. I was given the tip on a traditional angling forum to use fine wire wool to clean cork handles. Works a treat.
Once again, thanks for the input.
Had a waggle of a few rods yesterday. Sonik SK3 Specialist Tri-tip, Fox Duo-lite multi tip with 1.75 and 2.25lb tc tips, Korum Neoteric with 1.75 and 2.2lb tc. Couldn't try the Wychwood Maximiser but tried the Rapier Barbel 2lb tc instead.
I was impressed with...
Thanks for the input chaps (with the possible exception of all that wheelie bin nonsense!).
On the subject of test curve versus action, it's a good point. Some of those advising me on the TAC forum are casting weights of 8-10oz and possibly above with groundbait added. Obviously a standard...
Thanks for the advice, nice to have a few quick replies. The maximiser is available for just under a ton from Chapmans. This is above my budget but possibly reachable given the earlier bit in brackets. I didn't realise the rogue came in a 2lb tc so thanks for that.
Just a little note, could...
Hi all
I am planning a change of location this year and one of the possible locations, the lower Thames, would require me to purchase a new stepped up rod.
I have asked the guys on the TAC forum for advice and the concencus seems to be that a rod of 2lb to 2.5lb tc is the order of the day...
I have an old Greys prodigy which needs a new tip. It's not in warrantee, is discontinued and I have no proof of purchase. I called them yesterday and they said if it was in stock they'd send me one without me having to chop up the broken one. They quoted £40 including postage. That's a tenner...
