Snapped greys x flite tip

Out on the river yesterday n had a total mare of a session ending in the tip on on my xflite 1.75 snapping 4" from the tip.
Question is how good is the greys warranty as
A I have the original proof of purchase ( July 2011)
B did send off the card that came with the rod to register it but had nothing back 11 months ago???
Now I've read the warranty website n I'm concerned that they won't replace it due to it being discontinued nor ever having any proof of warranty back off greys.
Was just wondering if anyone else had any dealings with greys????
If so any good or bad??
Or do I need to start looking for a new rod

they'll replace it no worries, I never sent my warranty card and when mine snapped they replaced the section(for a fee ofcourse).

Not that long after my quiver section snapped and I refused to pay and demanded a complete new rod which they agreed to.

They call it a warranty but actually there just selling you another section and I wouldn't mind betting there making money on the replacement sections.
 
Mark-if this happened at around 5.45 pm yesterday evening then we should get our DNA checked. We might be twins given what happened to my Infinity at that time. Hope you get it sorted. The break in mine is clean as you like so highly likely to be just a bad rod based on the feedback on the thread I started yesterday. Good luck.
 
Although I have never owned a Greys rod , a couple of fishing pals have had similar breakages to yourselves . Greys replaced the section for a fee but weirdly told them to cut the broken section up in to small lengths to make postage easier ! Clearly they are not that interested in examining the break to possibly identify a cause , strange ...
 
I have an old Greys prodigy which needs a new tip. It's not in warrantee, is discontinued and I have no proof of purchase. I called them yesterday and they said if it was in stock they'd send me one without me having to chop up the broken one. They quoted £40 including postage. That's a tenner more than some on here have said, although maybe it depends on model.

If you do it the warrantee way it'll cost you £25 handling, admin and postage fee, plus 10% of the cost of the rod. I'd imagine that's going to put at least another tenner on the cost making £35. So the difference between it being in warrantee or out is a fiver. Hardly seems worth having the warrantee in the first place. But whatever my opinion it's not worth worrying as if you don't have the paperwork it isn't going to set you back an awful lot more.

Rang greys very very helpful n new section arrived 2 days later at a carriage charge of £40 so smiling again now.

Grays warranties are not worth the words they are written in, I do a lot of beach fishing, and the Greys beach rods are notorious for snapping, usually about 18 ins from the tip. Grays manufacturing base is now in the far east, and since production in the UK was stopped, the quality has really sunk to base level, I would never consider buying a Greys rod, although some of their other gear is fine.
Warranty........doh,, may as well just say buy expensive buy twice.There are better rods around at Half the price.

Last Wednesday While playing a good fish my Greys Prodigy rod snapped at the centre spigot. On Friday I took it to a local tackle shop Nathans in Derby. They rang today to say a new top section was ready for collection at a cost of £40. 10/10 for customer service from Nathans

Well that might give you an idea of just how much these rods cost, landed! In fact, it won't. I was once told that many rods made in the Far East cost less than a tenner to produce. I don't know whether or not this is true but it would surprise me not one bit. The reason that Greys require bits to be returned snapped up is to demonstrate that you have bought a rod in the first place, hopefully, at full whack. Otherwise you could assemble a rod for £80. I suppose they could refuse to supply spares and hope that you buy a new rod. But, if this were the case, any "brand loyalty" would go down the plug-hole.
 
Thing is yes the tip snapped n yes I had to pay £40 for a new top section??
But thing is Upto this incident I was more than happy with the rod, still am.
But then surely paying £40 is better than £100 plus on a twin tip.
N with regards to the far east debate they are all at it fox, Nash, Korda, just the world we live in I'm afraid
