    somerley estate

Gents, although not strictly barbel related, I thought that some of you would be interested to know that Christchurch Angling Club are in confidential negotiations with the Somerley Estate to relinquish the Ibsley Complex and hand it back to the estate. As those of you in the club will...

    christchurch angling club

Gents, I reckon the chances of getting a response from a CAC committee member on these questions is next to zero. I think the post was just some cheap advertising as CAC are not interested in us river fisherman in any way shape or form i'm afraid.

    somerley estate

Unfortunately I tend to agree with John that it is too late for a rescue plan for Somerley. I think now all that can be hoped for is to rescue the club, as I cant see how it can survive without Somerley without some major changes right now. With the loss of Somerley, I would certainly only...

    somerley estate

Hi Dave, I think you were the only committee member that ever answered any questions in the 'Questions for the Committee' section of the forum! Your presence there is sorely missed.

As a member of CAC I am also extremely disappointed at the way the Committee have handled the whole situation. Back in October members started to raise questions/concerns in the questions for the committee section of the forum. This thread gradually got longer and longer due to many members...

    what makes your ideal swim?

My ideal swim is the local nudist bathing spot but seeing as its a beach on the south coast I doubt I will catch any barbel... :-) My serious answer however is a nice steady deeper glide between streamer weed on a gravel bottom.

Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Hi Dave, They havent said they won't pay out on items I havent got receipts for, but when asked if I had receipts for everything and I answered no, they did say that the small print in the policy states that receipts should be kept!! When I said that it was impossible to keep receipts for...

Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Wow. Thats a very kind and generous offer Richard and has restored my faith in humanity :-) I've actually cobbled together some temporary kit so that I do not miss out on what seems almost perfect conditions on my local river and live in hope that the insurance company will not be too harsh...

Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Thanks for all of the kind words guys and thanks for those who are keeping their eyes peeled for the rods. In the unlikely event that they do get spotted I thought it may be worth sharing a few other items that were taken: Kona Scrap Mountain Bike in army green JW Young Purist 2 Pin-...

Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Thanks for the comments guys. Have been scouring gum tree and eBay and will be visiting a few local car boot sales in the near future. If only I knew when they are coming back so I can borrow my brothers dogs for an overnight stay in the garage :-)

Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Unfortunately they were either spooked or couldnt fit any more in their vehicle as they left a lot of high value kit as well...! We now have everything of value in the house until i can sort the security out. The police said that I am the fourth person in 2 weeks who has been targeted for...

Stolen Rods + New Rod Advice

Guys, I hope you can help. Last weekend I had all of my fishing equipment stolen from my garage (just outside Ringwood, Hants). Whilst most of it is replaceable, I am stuggling to find a replacement for my two favourite Barbel Rods which I have been using for many years. In case you...

    Tin of worms....open!

I personally do not have a problem with people wearing whatever they want on the bankside as long as it doesn’t interfere with other peoples fishing. The anti-camo brigade do seem intent in voicing their opinions of how people should look, and what methods they choose to adopt in their pursuit...

    Neoprene Chest Waders

Many prefer stocking foot waders with boots as they are quite comfortable and when out of the water, are fine for walking in. I suppose the difference is like walking in wellies vs walking boots. Cleated soles are essential for muddy banks and obviously are standard on walking boots. Wading...

    Neoprene Chest Waders

Hi Chris, Stocking foot waders are still completely waterproof and your feet are always dry, it just means that instead of having an integral boot, the bottom is shaped like a sock so you can put a pair of boots on. Wading boots are designed to dry quickly and many designed to drain quickly as...

    Neoprene Chest Waders

I use breathable all year round and just wear thermals under when its a bit colder. If you are fishing rivers where there are no slimy stones, a cheap pair of walking boots are much more cost effective than wading boots. Sports Direct sell cheap walking boots for around £15 on line.

    Korum ruckbag, anyone use one?

Another thumbs up for the ruckbag here as well. I use it with a non-Korum chair as well and it works perfectly. The outside pockets are great for items that you need to access quickly/often without the need to open the main compartment. Great when its tipping it down. I like the straps and...

Posted on the Christchurch Angling website yesterday are reports that a 19lb 7oz Barbel has been caught from a club stretch of the Stour which will be a new Stour record. I'm looking forward to reading more about this when the details are published.

    New Hampshire Avon Record

Well done Ben. Very well deserved mate. I have been exploring some of the quieter stretches of the middle Avon and agree with Craig that there are definately some monsters out there to catch. Would be interested in knowing if there are any distinguishing marks on the fish just in case it comes...
