If you've ever tried to unhook an angry coot that has dived 10' or more to get your bait in the night then you will understand that a non lethal but highly effective deterrent can be an advantage. Also, mine makes pretty patterns which is lovely :p

I've just been reviewing the TFGear Thermo-Tex Extreme jacket and trousers and I have to say that they are brilliant. No bull, they are very warm, well made and have plenty of thoughtful features. At £100 for total warmth, waterproof and comfort you can't go wrong.

The top one has been, imho, sliced by braid - its pectoral seems to be missing as well a classic braid injury. The bottom one looks to have been bitten by either a large pike or an otter but without having a closer look at the fish I wouldn't like to say which.

I didn't answer the 'how far' as it is a mute point. I mainly fish the Wye and am amongst snags virtually all the time I am fishing. The point I was making was the distinction between fishing where there are snags and dropping a baited hook deep into an area of sanctuary - like Matt Hayes did...

Its a very old clip filmed at Adams Mill (before the boom) when Matt was a regular there. I think the tactics were widely questioned as unsporting back then.

Dave I consider chasing fish in their only point of sanctuary as unsporting. I know that many want to catch come what may but I have my own limits and I know that if you spook the hell out of them there they will be much harder to catch elsewhere thus ruining it for the following anglers =...
