Cheers Gary. I just can't wait👍 Roll on January!!

    Longest held ticket.

Brilliant, thanks Derek. Just wish we'd taken plunge ten years earlier!! Now I cant wait for my new membership to the premium Ribble Club : "Prince Albert A S. (runs from January to December) They have a large spread of sections of the river with some the best barbel stretches available...

    Longest held ticket.

First joined Ashfield Angling in its early days back in 2004 (my two favourite venues were C1 and Thrumpton; of course, back then it was pretty much guaranteed that you'd drop into a decent swim, and C1 very rarely had that many bivvies causing river "bedblocking" back then!!) Over the years as...

what size pellets do you use on hair rig

On my permanent 'Elips' rod I have, more many years now, used three large pellets superglued to the hair in a sort of pyramid shape (often coated in Elips paste) whilst my second rod (if I'm using, say, Robin Red pre-drilled) will fish two 12mm also coated with appropriate paste👍 I appreciate...

    Grab some while you can!

Such a pity that the Tulip brand stopped producing their superb Garlic Spam. I still have about a dozen or so tins left in the garage from the last time it was available when I stocked up with about 40 tins (from B & M ) some years ago!! Trouble is the tins are slowly starting to show small...

NEW ! The grand fishing adventure

Trouble is that if the production is trying to broaden its appeal, a purely "silent", non-informative programme would be perfectly acceptable to most of us "barbel converts" but might well appear somewhat baffling (possibly even non-engaging🥱, heaven forfend!!) for other "non-believers!

NEW ! The grand fishing adventure

Well, if he did "turn his attention to barbel", I would sincerely hope he would keep his raucous, off-the-wall presence well away from any stretch of river that I was quietly trying to enjoy for a day/night out!!

NEW ! The grand fishing adventure

That's EXACTLY the main problem!! Thank you for highlighting it so eloquently, Ben:rolleyes: (PS I only wear my tweeds and floppy hat at week-ends;)

NEW ! The grand fishing adventure

I appreciate that it seems there is a constant obligation for this form of programming of, say, "less commercially appealing" (some might now say of angling itself, "niche") sports for there to be a jokey, blokey approach to proceedings in the hope that potential, accidental viewers might just...

    Power-Assisted Lightweight Trolley

Many thanks for all replies so far. I'll keep searching, as well as re-thinking what to take for a regular outing (and for me, it's just GOT to be two rods...just a 21 year habit!!)🙂

    Power-Assisted Lightweight Trolley

Cheers Paul. Sadly, I am far from a creative diy man, although I did look (somewhat optimistically)at a few golf trolleys earlier but thought " by the time I'd have eventually managed to bodge something together, I'll have probably missed the best part of the Autumn on the bank!!"🤣

    Power-Assisted Lightweight Trolley

Currently recuperating from a bit of radiotherapy treatment recently, I am anticipating a period where, despite my desire to get back out on the (Ribble) bankside at the peak time for barbelling (October-December) I realise that lugging my regular kit along the river will be a major hurdle in my...

How did your Barbel journey start ?

It started some 21 years ago when me (and my colleague back then, Bob Ring) decided to book a a day's guiding with Trefor West. We travelled from Hertfordshire to meet up with him near Knightwick on The Teme. It was the very first time I was introduced to the joys of Elips pellets. We both had...

"Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing" New Series

For those that are interested, it looks like the new series (no. 5) is scheduled to start on Friday 9th September on Beeb 2 at 9.00pm. An albeit brief trailer references: 'sausages, gravy and Bovril' and the need to "get our fishing heads on". I hope it retains its unique and endearing...

    SAD NEWS

A brilliant, entertaining presence throughout my whole life. RIP.

    Prolonged heat

Totally agree, Chris. Having recently moved to the North-west of the UK at the end of last year and slowly trying to adjust to the capricious nature of my new venue- The Ribble, a spate river, with it's constantly varying levels, I was totally gobsmacked recently by the fact that at least two...

    Hook choice???

Without question, I've used Korda Kontinental hooks successfully for the past 10 years. Extra strong gauge and needle sharp! NEVER had one straighten (as I have had with other, so-called "specialist"-type brands!) For small baits (maggots, casters) size 10 with a short, 6-inch length of 12lb...

What are your targets for the new season?

I have only just gone through a major house move from Leicestershire to Merseyside for family reasons after some 17 years(!!) previously covering The Trent and most other Midlands waterways, last December. I still managed, however, to squeeze in a few "end of season" outings on my brand new...

    Boot Space for fishing tackle

I understand thanks David and all other contributors, but one of the main reasons for my dispensing with my one-time favourite Nissan X-trail nearly 4 years ago was precisely the fact that it had a diesel engine (admittedly a gas-guzzling 2 litres!) with all the concomitant drawbacks of the...

    Boot Space for fishing tackle

Well, thanks to all contributors (however varied!!) As is the norm for this excellent site, enthusiastic discussions/viewpoints will tend to shoot off at unpredictable tangents from the original subject matter🤨 but its always entertaining AND informative! As I'd already largely committed to...
