Power-Assisted Lightweight Trolley

Currently recuperating from a bit of radiotherapy treatment recently, I am anticipating a period where, despite my desire to get back out on the (Ribble) bankside at the peak time for barbelling (October-December) I realise that lugging my regular kit along the river will be a major hurdle in my present physically fatigued state. However, I recalled on many previous occasions in the past that it was possible to obtain battery-operated trolleys to overcome such situations. Unfortunately, my recent on-line research this morning has not been as productive as I might have considered (particularly as I already knew that the go-to POWAWALKER company went out of circulation several years ago!). As I am far from capable of "DIY-ing my own battery-type trolley (I certainly don't want one of those massive carpers' four-wheeled pantechnicons!) does anyone have any brilliant suggestions or am I just gonna have to wait until I eventually get back to my normal, reasonably healthy (for a 76-year-old!) level....which might be at least a month or two or more away?!

A guy in my local club bought a used electric golf trolley off Gumtree, fixed a box to it and straps rods to the whole thing. Works a treat but he has had to thin down the gear he takes.

Cheers Paul. Sadly, I am far from a creative diy man, although I did look (somewhat optimistically)at a few golf trolleys earlier but thought " by the time I'd have eventually managed to bodge something together, I'll have probably missed the best part of the Autumn on the bank!!"🤣

I looked on Ebay for ages until a THREE wheel Powerwalker finally come up a reasonable distance away so keep looking even if its only an investment for the future! Alternatives include cut down on kit and use an ordinary fishing trolley, ask in a local tackle shop, or contact a local Men's Shed which specialise in producing items for people following cancer (They might be able to convert a golf trolley?). However any trolley will require a reasonably flat bank without boulders or rocks and they can be quite heavy with the weight of the battery to lift in and out of the car.

The Powerwalkers do weigh a ton though don’t they? I got one after spine surgery and did my back in lifting it into the car when I collected it after buying it on eBay. Even with the battery removed it’s heavy.

Roger, it looks like you’re a long way away from me in North London otherwise I’d be happy to let you have mine for a bit so you could have a good try, or even use it until you’ve got your strength back

PM me if you’re interested

Many thanks for all replies so far. I'll keep searching, as well as re-thinking what to take for a regular outing (and for me, it's just GOT to be two rods...just a 21 year habit!!)🙂

There is a VERY good helpful facebook page worth joining and posting this question on there mate you often get people selling this type of thing your after on there

Agree with Gerry - you can also buy 'ready made' barrow conversion kits from Global Angling Products that take 10mins to fit - get hold of a Porter Lite (or similar) strap on the kit and away you go.

I've got a Nash Metro Power barrow for carping and although small for a powered carp barrow would be a faff for rivers - my Porter Lite however would be doable! Must say that the power barrow (for carping at any rate) is arguably one of the best purchases made in recent years - expensive but totally worth it . . .!
