Both pics with the ratchet off. Usual position in first pic and all working fine as it should. When I turned the pawl over it only worked (and quite weakly) with the tension on the spring setting set to the max ( as per pic 2) Adjustable tightness of ratchet spring the benefit of the Speedia...
Did that walk from Eastleigh to Winchester with my brother about 12 years ago, a very fine walk too. Not long into it, grassy field with hilly woody rise other side of bank an angler had just caught a 20lb + pike (think it was 27). We took a photo for him. Thoughts of grayling, and jealousy of...
Typical entry from above Return to the river Pinn, April 2015....
“ I just cannot believe how time passes at this joyous time of year. British Summer Time, blossom, bees, and burbot chasing nymphs.
The Pinn is in splendid condition and so are the Curgudgeons, equally roused from the tedium of...
Ian Hugo Arnott in his return to the river Pinn thread ( few years ago on BFW) was regularly spotting and tending the burbot, an hilarious Thread it was too, sadly no word since 2016
Thanks Andy and for years of entertainment for BFW in the first place. Hmm, yes I tend to agree with what Jason says there, perhaps "due to a number of pressures including the reintroduction... and over abstraction... and might even be worth mentioning the environmental, conservation dimensions...
Haven't been here for a while, which is no reflection on you (us) lovely lot. Just thought the new home page message is very well written, kind of nails it. Sad but true is the message I guess. But nothing will stop me sitting on the bank of the Kennet.
My best to everyone. Nick
Dettol is absolutely the way to go, just take the drum off the spindle and fully immerse both parts in dettol for 8 hours then brush off the paint bits that didn't fall off with an old tooth brush - it works!
Or Mordex Major, both underrated, merlin and major both bit bigger than speedia @4 1/2" or 4 3/4" diameter and the spool is 3/4" wide (speedia WD is 1") wish I hadn't sold mine - thinking about it they were great.
I have an Avocet cane rod I bought a few years ago. It’s drop dead beautiful, restored by the late Clive Young I’m told, but I’ve never used it mainly because it looks so fantastic with speedia strapped in that I’d feel like a bit of a poser if I were actually to go out with it - if...
So what in the opinion of all is the best sub for the hinders ellipse ? I have 2 3kg bags from 6 month ago purchase which will see me good for a month or three. Sorry if this a lazy question but it's difficult to tell when as is the way of the world it's all online
John's one of the few people on this forum I've had the pleasure of meeting in person, so I'm shocked to see the title of this thread and I wish his family and friends all the very sincerest best. Indeed a true gent.
Bit of an aside, but has anyone fished the river Tagus in Spain? - big Barbel in there! I went to Toledo (Just south of Madrid) in the summer, didn't take the rods, but think I will next time - amazing looking river.
