    Trent tickets for trotting?

Not a quiet venue but Ladypit Farm on the Scunthorpe AA ticket is great for float fishing. Only £55 for a year from the date of joining and they have some great stretches of the tidal Trent as well. Ladypit is where the Trent splits into two at Nabbs Island. Fast and shallow for most of the length.

    new membership trent

I would say that it is very safe on the Midland AS water. Also there is parking at the pegs on the road side section which are also barbel pegs. Not hugely prolific though. Nottingham Federation of Anglers also have safe venues where you can fish all night. Pentons field (bit of a walk), Clifton...

Shimano XT RB 6000 vs Shimano 6000D

I have a pair of xt 6000s for the Trent, Adam. I like them, a lot.

    Water temperature thermometer for rivers

I use an old glass thermometer encased in a metal frame (to protect it). This is attached to a length of heavy fishing line. Some people say that you need to take the temperature on the bottom as far out as possible. However, I take the view that rivers are constantly moving and mixing so the...

    Water temps

I can see me getting a job now! 🤣 Go on then, when I post on Facebook I'll also post on the middle Trent thread. I can't do this as regularly as Sid does but will be done when I go fishing. Please go to the middle Trent thread for my latest update. 😁

    Water temps

There is a Facebook group for the river Trent. I post temperatures on it.

    Rivers back then.

Well I'm 57 as well Simon and I've fished the Trent all my life, match fishing regularly up until around 2009. I however used to go on the middle river and sometimes the tidal. I have seen many massive changes in the sizes of the fish, populations and types of fish present. Going back to the...

    River Trent running high

The barbel are feeding. I have had 12 fish from 6pm to 10pm. No big fish though, best 9-2. River still rising rapidly!

    Groundbait ?

I use groundbait. Barbel love eating it which I realised when bream fishing in my match fishing days, being broken off regularly. Groundbait is so versatile all year round and my approach is to cast regularly, even in winter. Summer time sees me plugging the ends of the feeder and filling the...

    Power-Assisted Lightweight Trolley

Why don't you slim your gear down massively. I often think that I hardly use any of the stuff in my bag. I sometimes load my pockets up and wander around with just a rod, landing net and rod rest. Take a mat to sit on as well.

    Cadence cr10 barbel??

I have a pair of 2lb tc. The fish playing action is lovely and they have enough backbone lower down in the rod to cast a good distance. Quality rings and reel seat but the quality of the cork handle is not great. Not bad but not as good as I would expect. They are not lightweight blanks but they...

End of an era, for me

That makes three of us! I was 52 when I first attempted barbel fishing. I'm an ex river and canal match angler and didn't know how to tie a hair rig. Realised that I shouldn't let the opportunity of living near the best barbel river in the country go. Now, barbel fishing has caught me! I can...

    Bulk halibut pellets

At least pellets were designed as fish food. Maggots, hempseed, luncheon meat etc were definitely not. Surely, chucking in a kilo of pellets is far better for the fish than a gallon of maggots or hemp (or a couple of tins of meat). I shall continue to use pellets (catching plenty of barbel) 👍😁

    Tackle in Lidl this week

I still have an Aldi jacket and bib n brace from 3 years ago. Still waterproof and amazing value. Too warm to wear in summer but it's had 3 winters of hard use and abuse. As good or better than anything I've ever used. Got another set in the garage for when this one wears out but it won't wear out!

    Fishing Allstars

Have to disagree with you Neil on a few points. Ladypit farm is more like a small river, extensively shallow and weedy with overhanging trees and bends. Also, a lot of anglers, like myself, don't use pods or bivvys. If you are referring to peg 1 at East Stoke, where the division 1 national was...

    Fishing Allstars

I don't know about Dean Macey but I agree it is a beautiful looking stretch. Not like most of the middle Trent as it is not navigable, fast and shallow. Great spawning place and where Calverton fish farm get the brood fish from. Barbel and chub.

    Fishing Allstars

I gave the ticket up for two reasons. It can get very crowded in summer. Not really my thing. Also there are not many big barbel. Plenty of smaller ones and loads of chub to over 6lb, a lot more double figure barbel elsewhere. Scunthorpe ticket is only £45 I think and they have some good fishing...

    Fishing Allstars

All of the stretch was Ladypit farm, including the weir that Dean fished. I had a ticket for 2 years. Collingham weir pool is much bigger!
