Winter Suits

Looking at the Trakker tundra for winter fishing £100 . Does anyone recconmend them or anything else the Wychwood looks similar too ?.

Take a look at the Sundridge Igloo 6. Much better than the Tundra IMO. I've had both.

do you want the suit to be both warm AND waterproof in one item Gary?....

if so i'd look at the sundridge igloo Mk5 suit, still the odd one available if you search hard enough.

HOWEVER.... i've been down this road, and my advice would be to look at buying a breathable insulation layer (such as snugpak jacket and salopettes), and a seperate lined breathable waterproof layer. (look at the shooting clobber rather than angling brands)

Very impressed with titan X sea fishing clothing

looks like there's a bit of a sale on at the moment too

Its a tricky one Mart , as your moving sometimes on the river bank you dont want to be weighed down with a big heavy suit but staying a a chosen swim for a few hours want to be dry and warm. Really need some waterproof bottoms that are warm and breathable good for being mobile rather than jacket as will go the layers route .!

TK Max

Dont overlook the outdoor winter wear at TK Max, they get some real bargains on their racks.
Aimed at the Ski & Snowboard lot, just dont go getting anything that's Salmon pink with fur on :)

I use the Sundridge Retek Mark 4 for all winter fishing, coarse and sea with either an imax squall base layer or a sundridge sleep suit, paired with a pair of hotfoots ive never suffered yet.

How on Earth can this stuff be any good if it is reduced? If the weather is inclement, don't bother going out and save yourself some money. I was talking to Sir Ranulph a few weeks ago as we share a mutual club. He believes that the only harsh weather clothing worth having is that designed for Arctic conditions. Many fishing products are designed to catch anglers and we all know this at the bottom of our hearts! So, if you are serious about foul weather clothing don't bother with the tackle shops and seek out the specialists.

I dont think i'll be casting no lines once the thermometer touches -45 or so with a wind chill and coming from a deep sea trawling background i know all about cowld.

Spot on. And if you were at sea it wouldn't be in a Tundra Mk3, Igloo Five turbo warmth etc. - it would be clothing designed for the job. If you must venture out in such conditions, make it a short session with a nice cup of Horlicks to look forward to when you get home.

Spot on Jim. Most of the angling branded stuff is just not fit for purpose. Warm? well in the main yes, waterproof..? no.

I bought some hunting gear last winter and although more expensive, I won't be buying anything else for the next 10yrs.

Must agree i have never had a problem with sundridge gear warm and waterproof and i have sat out for hours in the rain with my minus 10 suit and it has never leaked one problem is its very very warm and you can sweat a lot if your moving around.
When mine is no longer any good will be going to a specialist outdoor shop and buy breathable water proofs and layers.

I've just bought the Wychwood Solace 3 in 1 suit and I can't rate it highly enough. Well made, warm as toast and waterproof. you even get a free of charge hat to keep your nut warm. My mate had the Trakker and it litterly fell apart at the seams after 12 months.

Cheers chaps looking to go the layers route with a good pair of waterproofs.
Gary, it's worth making sure either the waterproof layer or the layer underneath is windproof. Most gear isn't (especially fishing gear), and it's not much fun when a biting wind goes straight through you!

Sundridge.:)

Sundridge base layers are spot on - will definately keep you warm. If you plan on sitting still in one spot, the sleep suit is the way to go - although it will have to be really cold before you put the 2nd top on! Spent a day on the Ribble a couple of years ago, -8C, ice sheets coming down the river - had to strip off on the bank to take the top off as i was too warm! Had mine for years now and it's as good as new - £40 well spent.

Strip off on the bank  Still, I guess in temperatures like that the police would be hard put to find evidence of indecent exposure :p

Cheers, Dave.
