Two Tone dead

I think, at the end of the day, a little perspective is needed.

The general consensus, and one I agree with, is that the outpouring of grief and funeral-type send off is pretty pathetic. I wouldn't even mention in to any non-angling friends, for fear of being labelled as part of some ridiculous cult. Though that's probably the least of my worries :)

For those that don't agree; well, that's your right...and you're welcome to your opinion.

Can anyone think of an amusing epitaph?

I can understand why people wwere upset by the death of this mighty fish , but funerals and epitaphs , hmmm . I watched the U tube link posted on the 'dead carp' thread of some chaps ' weighing and generally piddling around with said 2 tone . I have to say I found it cringingly embarrassing viewing and all a bit pathetic . Yes it's a whopper and was the record but why couldn't they just weigh it , take their pics and put the poor thing back ? It was out of the water for an age , with that sort of treatment I amazed it lived as long as it did . I'll get me coat .....

Fish come and fish go. The bigger they get and the more times they get caught, the more famous they become - it is inevitable, as is the occasional death of one of them. I can understand the loss (and occasionally anger) some individuals will feel about it but having a funeral is well over the top. Far better to have got it stuffed if it was that special, though personally I always thought it was an ugly looking thing!

Well, honestly. If had to do that sort of stuff just to get my fishy rocks off, I'd've ditched Angling for tiddlywinks at the age of ten and saved myself all the expense, effort, thinking, travelling and trouble...

Hi men ,

True Paul , could not see myself fishing a lake for 8 years for 1 fish ( using Lee Jackson as an example ), but things at the extreme ends of the spectrum in any spot / pastime seem strange to average anglers . Why climb a mountain when you can strol up Snowdon , why run a marathon when you can run for a bus , for some people its a challenge , and fishing for a record carp , or any other species , is the ultimate challenge for some .

Ultimate challenges? I've done far better and not just abroad and certainly not on some extended, home from home, Guest Chair, socialising camp.

I would imagine that many carp, barbel and tench in England will have been caught at least 50 times. The idea of finding previously uncaught monsters is hugely appealing but is becoming increasingly difficult. Personally, the pursuance of well-known, heavily pressurized, often caught monsters does little for me, but unless you have privileged access to private waters the chances are that most of the fish you catch will have been caught before, often very many times!

Young Paul is unable to contribute further to this distinctly fishy thread as he is deep in preparation for a forthcoming one of these -

Bivvied up on his lawn at present, I understand, with just a mat, a lot of winks and, of course, his trusty, well-wielded squidger. We should all be proud of the lad for bringing glory once more to Great Britain.

As ever,

Hi men ,

Chris , you ar right , I think that with so many good anglers fishing for it , about 50 times is good !. Im sure that barbel are caught far more often than you imagin . My mate fished for , and caught a classic " old english " carp from a lake near to his home , and it came out once in 3 years . I would be nice to think that when catching a fish it was a rare trip for it to the bank , but in the real world , its possible not.
