Two Tone dead

a lot of you guys aint gonna like this next bit,
judging by the way some of you sneer at an outstanding fish no matter what species makes me cringe at the future of fishing if that is the attitude of the
rest of englands anglers

I really don't see what you are seeing. I see some ridiculing the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the death of what is just a fish, albeit a very big fish. That's no slur on the fish or the achievement of anyone that caught or sought to catch the fish while it was alive.

It was the arrival of the Circus to much of carp fishing that badly messed it, John. I have a great deal of affection and respect for people like Pete Springate, Kenny, Roger, Rod etc, but as for many of the ME-MEs who followed in their train...

Paul, yes i agree in part that there is a trend in some carp men to out drink or out catch or outdo anything any one else is doing/done at all costs,
i seldom went to the barge but yes theres times when i did, sometimes to socialise or meet others, what i am saying is basically theres still plenty of guys that do things in moderation rather than over the top fashion,
unfortunately for some of us olduns who maybe crept out fishing late at night and hid in the undergrowth in daylight to stop guys pinpointing where and what we were fishing for, you know before the matt black days;) now the new generation holds things in a different perspective but! theyre still putting em on the bank, yes more much more carp around these days but no more blanking for a season sometimes eh:), the picture i percieved from this thread
took appearance of others appearing to take the attitude of oh its just another big carp died and cant stand the antics of guys that fish for them
what i was saying basically is its a big whack in the nuts for fishing to lose a massive specimen and that goes for all species,
maybe i have misunderstood what i read or maybe i didnt, either way its the way i percieved it, reguards...j.w

I can't believe they are actually having a funeral for this fish, are sackcloth and ashes to be the new camo?

It was a fish for gods sake....If those who fished for it had a true sense of history they would have it set up and put on display, perhaps at Waltons cottage so future generations could see it rather than burying the thing.

I object to this over sentimentalism which is creeping into our pastime, I object to it even more when I get sarcastic texts from non angling friends and relations offering me condolences for my loss.

The people organising this funeral need to get a grip.

Yes. What I have been saying for at least the past decade both in private and in public, Adrian. My word, how such heresy won me a fan club!

Wholly agree!!

Common consensus of opinion amongst my carp fishing friends being very much the same as mine, yes its a shame even sad but all this grieving is a sad pathetic reflection of todays society, bordering on unhealthy.:rolleyes:

And I see many carp anglers echoe this sentiment on forums too.

For some reason MKF management have failed to get my official pass for the Two Tone memorial service (clerical error I'm sure), so instead of shedding a tear over a fish I'm gonna try and catch Three Scale.....
:D :D :D :D

"The big(gest) carp is dead, long live the big(gest) carp.":rolleyes:

Hi men ,

James , nor did I , quiet the opposite. But I did get one from New Zeland , as was on their news . People attending a funeral is a bit much , but it was the record carp , a carp with a massive piece pf angling history , breaking through barriers that people could only dream about . Fished for by some of the best carp anglers we have in this country , one of these very bes told me it was a real bugger to catch . Setting up would have been better.

Its not the end of the world , but as iv said before , a bloody shame .

I love cricket , love it , I dont care who holds the record third wicket stand for England V India at the oval , but I dont slag of people who do care !!!. How sad for people to burn the bails after losing a game , its called history .

Mark, all I can assume is you and James only know/associate with sweet innocent souls, whereas I obviously don't.

Yes its a shame but...... With life comes death!!

I only wish that the texted jokes recieved by me could be shared on here but once edited by the sites profanity filter, the joke would be lost;) and of course the poor easily offended may object, even if not fully grasping what has been written:rolleyes::rolleyes:.

You say of angling history, what of Chris Yates UK's first 50lber?? Or the first 15lb+ tench caught back in 2001, undoubtedly dead now, say a prayer for them too??
(surely those fish are equally iconic as two tone, or not?)

I feel the necessity to add; I'm not slagging anyone off, in fact my thoughts are mirrored by many others, from carp anglers to non anglers.

My last post by me on this subject, gawd bless Two Tone and all those that caught him(?), oh and those who tried and failed but can try no more...

Hi men ,

Gordon , I fished for years in 80,s in the Colne valley , and with some stroke pullers of the highest order. Ran the Carp Society with a mate for the Chiltern region for years ., helped out on many society fish-ins for the juniors . Count Rob Maylin , Martin Clarke , dan , doris , and many of the famous / almost famous five as mates , and can say carp anglers are no worse than most anglers chasing other species. Trouble perhaps is that they spend more time on the bank , there are alot more of them , and with greater numbers reflect a greater cross section of society . With spending longer time on the bank , comes the chance to do things to pass the time between action.

Iv got more problems with barbel anglers "rolling" baits in the swim above then below me , often wanting to go through me , making a great deal of disturbence which dont mater as they are off in 10 mins , or anglers wanting to fish opposite me on a small river etc , yes they are in all forms of our pastime .

Maylin once said to me in the pub , iv got a great line to go in the book , " who are they to judge us when we are just having fun ":D:D:D:D:D:D.

Good last line though Gordon !

More bad news on the dead carp front. The water known as the Mere, home of the stunning Black Mirror has suffered a total fish kill with all the carp including a 60+ common along with record eels and tench having been wiped out. Algae bloom causing total deoxygenation looks like the cause.

Hi men ,

I herd about the " mere " fish yesterday , but to save people having to post on this thread I will do it for them,

- They are only fish , who needs to worry about history fish , they were sad deluded beer drinking , drug taking anglers who fished for them anyway , move on .

Next time the trent is wiped out by a polution incident people on here will probably be saying the same!!

More unfortunate news - algal bloom in this case if the reports are correct.

I understand that eutrophication is caused by algae contaminated boots of those dirty pesky cr*p (carp) anglers. They move from water to water (some call them puddles) spreading their filth be it their mentality or their dishevelled drugged up states.

The problem has become so acute that the whole country is endemic with their foulness which is manifesting itself amongst many soiled phenomena by the increase mortalities of named specimen pets.

They brought it on themselves. I told you so, so F.ck em all...

A real shame about the Mere, apparently everything living below the waters surface completely wiped out, from fish to water snails. Now that IS sad.
