tench fishing

Fished a local pit yesterday, 6 tench between 5 1/2 and 8lb 2oz, had 2 in the landing net waiting to be un-hooked at one point, knocks and nudges all day long........loads of fish rolling........great day.

Went back to the same place today, same tactics, etc.... 2 knocks, saw one fish roll but nothing caught, weird this fishing lark!!

Ian, in essence predictability leads to boredom but my tenching is predictable, S**T!!

More bleeding tench in January than April, no monsters, no nuffin.... Never fear I tell my self, its warming so the sport will take off big style. Then for a realality check I take a butchers at a weather forecast, getting colder AND north winds:eek::eek:!!

Still it can't keep getting colder, can it??

Simon,

I Think I will stick to catching my baby Tincas then , if that is the case
The Biggest Girls in my two waters just touch 11 lbs in the Cold North West of England.
Thats Big Enough for me. When I was at school in the 70s the record Tench was 10lbs
If I can manage one those I will be happy, and it certainly fills the River Gap.
Nice going Ian !!

Tight Lines

:D :D :D

8 tench:eek:. Now you've convinced me I need help on catching tench. I went yesterday, three bites, 19lb common 24lb mirror and a 7lb 12oz tench, so moves in the right direction....;)

Any good tench guides on here??

Had one of 7lb on Wednesday evening, fished again yesterday, one rod out for carp and one for tench, had a 17lb 7oz mirror, 7lb 2oz tench and 6lb 12oz tench and a couple of hours today landed an 18lb 6oz mirror.

Ian, you don't do guiding by any chance, cos I was using 2 rods for 10 hrs, both aiming at tench and well.... Nice to have an energetic fish pulling my rod round but IMO if its not the intended target then its only a by-product.
(and doesn't count)

Colin, my doing guiding would be like following a lost motorist.............

I have found that the deeper waters are fishing terribly still, the pit I have had some success on the last two weeks is only between 3 and 6 feet deep and all the fishj have come in the shallower water, I am sure we'll all do better once the water actually warms up, but for that we need more than a couple of days without 0 overnight!!!

Even on the shallow water many fish are still carrying parasites, so they must only just be starting to move around/feed and none have started to build any bulk yet...........

Snap, exactly the same up Yorkshire, had a very productive April but this May so far has been terrible. For this moment in time I'll be sticking to small, shallow mill ponds, as I've had my Arsed whipped a few times on the bigger, deeper waters this May!

Steve.
