tench fishing

Any of you good folk can put me onto a good Yorkshire venue for Tench fishing?

Any info and pointers greatly appreciated. :)

At least one tench awake in Shropshire! :D

First of the year for me today, that's 3 weeks earlier than I managed last year. Only 2.5lbs but at least it's a start. :)

Had 2 tench yesterday from one of my favourite waters, this one was a bit unusual, never seen two-tone in a tench before.

Had a nice 7.1 to start my tinca campaign off today.

Determined to catch all on the float only and trying for a first d/fig one this season after a 9.12 last season.

Steve

here's another two tone from last year.

Well done Stuart, they are fantastic fish.

It's nice to see some catch reports, the close season has been mainly grim for me oop north.

Stuart, In fact, if i am not mistaken, that's two different '7's' in a day, as fish 2 and fish 3 are almost certainly the same individual?

Regards, Chris.

PS. It still counts as three in a day in my book, though!

Well spotted Chris!

Now, how do we account for the 4oz discrepancy in weight?:D

Steve and Graham, interesting to see your two toned tincas BBBBUT replacing unhooking mats with paving slabs and wooden decking, hmm......

i was going to say somthing but i don't want to be the tench police....lol

Colin.

A wet weigh sling is quite adequate over a flat deck. I have invested in wooly jumpers for the tench though, and fit one after each capture to ensure they don't brush themselves on the sharp, gravel bottom of the lake when feeding.

Get a grip.

Impressive, it must be the artists eye.
I'm hopeless when it comes to recognising individual fish, in fact those who know me will know that I sometimes struggle recognising people, It's a kind of amnesia.

Now the subject of different clothes and hats have been brought up can I just say that I often change my hat during a session and occasionally change my t-shirt, especially on an overnighter when I've slept in it.

I often don't recognise people and rarely remember their names.

I just happened to notice that the bottom ray of the tail was damaged on both fish..... then the rest fell into place.

So I'll assume by this post you don't ever use a unhooking mat, UMMMM, your naughty....

Colin.

Your assumption is wrong, the basis for it is wrong, and you are probably better off gripping your testicles for some action:D

Just 3 hours this morning. 2 hours watching nothing happen. Turn round for a cup of tea.....and look back to see the float come back up!

20 mins later float dips, strike and hold tight as the spool is emptied by one of the massive carp. (i'm on 7.9lb line and it's set to maximum!) bear in mind the one I did land last season was a Leaney strain, probably from 1956 stocked mirror of over 34lb.

Recover the tackle from a left bank root later, hook around a branch.

Tackle up, 20 mins later float dips, strike, solid resistance, then starts to move off...and the hook pulls out.

Back tomorrow. What to do? If I target the carp and use suitable gear, then catch my first d/fig tench I'll be disappointed.

The Pike, undisturbed for many years have eaten all 5 of the ducklings and all the coot chicks. Thats 7 in a week. Saw the last 2 go. Nasty
