Perch

Thanks Andy, only taken 2/3 winters to get there. :eek:

All on a 1.5oz tip link legered. Prefer the tip to float as i connect with more fish on the tip.

Cracking fish again Paul, well done! I tend to use a 1.5oz tip also unless fishing under my feet where it has to be the float every time if only because I find it more exciting!

Might pop out for a few hours lure fishing on the Thames this Friday, work dependent. Teddington towards Kingston and maybe even Hampton Court most likely.

Any tips most welcome. Probably concentrate on small soft plastics but happy to be put right.

Thats my old stomping ground when i was a kid, used to fish at kingston by the islands for roach and sneak into the gardens next to the teddington film studios and fish the wier run off for what i thought at the time were massive roach (about a 1lb). Supposed to be a very good area for perch now i hear. Like you, i like to use a float close in and where the depth makes it possible, many of the water park pits are very clear and shallow and a float in 2-3 feet of water can put em off.

Yeah Martin, plastics are the way to go.
2-3 inch kopytos work for me......red and white colour combinations being favourite.
Very slow retrieve either dragging along the bottom when no debris or twitched on stand-up jig heads.

Thx for the advice. Unfortunately the missus got a shift today so had to cancel the planned trip.

A mate is faring better today at Barton Court. He's had a few perch including two twos, biggest so far 2lb 13.5oz. He's done what i should have done last week and switched to red maggots!
 
This winter I've had my first serious efforts after perch in years. Had a few good fish too up to 3.13. Apart from the fish themselves, which are fantastic, what I have really loved about the fishing is that it has reduced me to being an absolute beginner again.... learning about the species, exploring lots of new waters and developing techniques. I just wish I could find a few reliable big perch waters, as there are still not loads of big perch in my area.

Absolutely, Steve. I just wish I'd done it before making my contribution to the artists section of the new Perchfisher's book, though it was this that spurred me on to having a serious go at long last.

Youve done well mate to get an almost scraper 4 on your first proper perch season. Great fun following up leads and information from various sources and trying out new waters. I reckon that there is probably some very good perch water near you, its just finding them. This winter (my third after perch, but 2nd proper as last winter i was ill) has given me some of the best fishing ive ever had. Perch are awesome creatures. :D

Thanks Paul, and yes the Perchfishers book is fab. Without doubt it was reading it that finally lit my fuse and sent me out after them. I had a 3.01 Norfolk fish today and a 2.04 so after chasing loads of dead-end leads, I think I'm now in with a chance of a new PB to end the season with.
 
Well done Chris, if you crack a 4 by the end of the season, that will be a seriously good result. I found a nice pocket of fish yesterday which resulted in 3 3s to 3lbs 9oz and some back up 2s. :D

That's an excellent day out Paul. As for me catching a 4 this year, I live in hope?!!!
 
River season over for me, 29 Perch over 2lbs and 11 3s to a new pb of 3lbs 11oz. Best Perch fishing i have experienced to date and all in just over three weeks. :D I caught the 3-11 twice and two other 3s twice. Still have some still waters to focus on over the next few weeks and probably into April. This is my new pb at 3lbs 11oz.

Great stuff Paul. I had a really gentle take on a 3 inch yellow kopyto today resulting in a lovely 3-10. Beat my p.b. by an ounce. :)
Off chasing chub on the float tomorrow......more good luck i hope...

Well done chaps, a fine end to the river season. Unfortunately even with a lack of work I failed to get out again, so that three will have to wait for yet another season. Not surprising really as I think I need to put in a fair few more hours to truly deserve one.
 
Well, what a marvellous 3 weeks Paul, and that's an absolute corker to round it off - well done :)
And a 3.10 Steve - great stuff :)
Not that I'm jealous or anything :rolleyes:
Must target them more next season - just love river perch.

Here you go Paul. I've had some really beautifully coloured big perch this season but as you can see, this is an old warrior......stunning nonetheless. :)
