Perch

Wow....the colours on those fish are magnificent and I thought the Teme Perch were vibrant?

Pretty much every fish of any species that I've caught from the HA has been wonderfully coloured ! A tough (at times) but special river !

Sweet brace mate cracking photo to boot.

River Teme Perch

has anyone ever done any good fishing for perch on the teme??

I'm not after pegs or even areas where they'v come from just an idea of if there are any there now.

I'm a Teme valley boy and haven't caught 1 in years but if i think about it i haven't really fished for them either.

the last good sized fish i had came from a little tributary and although i didnt have scales with me the fish was easily over 2.5lbs.

My time is going to be tight this winter so if i could keep a little of my fishing closer to home i would be able to spend more time on the bank

I would be really grateful if anyone could let me know if they'v had 1 or 2 over the last few years and like i said before i'm not trying to drop on the going peg just get a general idea of if it's worth targeting them or not

many thanks
Neil

Nice one Steve, I know you like to keep your locations secret sometimes, but I think it's a bit much to disguise the grass too!!:D

Hopefully will chat to you about your latest pred captures at the pub!

Well done Steve, as a matter of interest what kind of peg are you targetting? I want to a do a 2 pounder myself this season and have actually seen several fish over that last season but couldn't tempt one on a revisit. Just wondering where you find they show?

Thanks, Lee

I know you meant other Steve, but something I do, which has always found ne decent fish is to set up a simple light leger rig, and a float rig, a bucket of 3-4inch livebait and maybe some lobs, and simply rove the margins, looking for any deep undercuts,or obvious snags and just drop in on them, I find if I havent had a take in 10 minutes, then I'll move on until I find them!

I'm just fishing worm and feeding chop worm and maggots Lee.

I look for anywhere with a reasonable depth of water (3ft+) and ideally some cover.
Slacks behind a tree/bush are ideal.

I just float fish, setting the float a foot or so over depth, and have two or three BB's 6 inches from the hook.
I'm currently using 4lb line straight through, but think I'm going to step up to 6lb, as I do feel a little under-gunned at times.
Hooks are 4's/6's.

Just get out there with a bucket of worms and some maggots and give it a go Lee.
You might just be surprised....

Steve,

Nice brace matey :D

I usually look for structures as well, almost anything man made seems to attract perch, such as walls, bridge supports and fishing platforms etc. Have had some good fish literally at my feet on platforms with my 12' float rod often feeling too long. Dont be afraid to try a couple of huge lobs on a size 6 and similarly keep chopping and changing to half or bits of worm on a size 12 or 14.

Steve,

Nice perch mate! Your pics have inspired me to dust off the rods and go fishing - for the first time in donkeys, thanks :)

Nice fish Paul...I've been struggling all over to get away from the bait robbing sized Stripeys and find a better fish or two:mad:
