new record fish

Just out of curiosity then say they is this massive barbel in the Thames. Do you have to give an exact location then where it was caught then. If not what's the issue with claiming the record.

People come looking for you and/or it encourages new faces to try the river more seriously.

Specialist angling can be a competitive business. I gave up for over 10 years - as result of distasteful actions by other anglers. These days I fish with one person regularly and our important catches don’t get talked about.

It would be great to be able to publicise what you catch - but these days it just creates too much hassle.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

I have heard of 2 places on the Thames both have a Barbel that gets caught fairly often and a known fish amongst the Carp anglers both fish are around 20 plus one place is only accessible by boat

AND yes when they get caught some of them weigh it just out of interest
that PROVES NOTHING other than the fact its eating the bait that they use and they chat amongst them selves some of these dedicated guys fish a season for just a handful of fish

((If someone tells me they don't count their 20lb barbel and they don't have the slightest interest in it, I will probably reply with then why are you telling me about it.))
I was told because he is my mate and knows I now only fish for Barbel and also knows I will keep my mouth shut and wants me to catch it sadly it coincided with my health problems and I cant fish but in this past 12 months its been out and put on weight and I get updated

if I do recover and get to catch it I wont tell anyone about it either as its a personal thing some people dont need to massage the Ego`s
That is quite a long post for someone who keeps his mouth shut 😂😂

Mate let's leave it at that, happy new year and sincerely hope you catch that big barbel mate 👍🏼

That’s because they want to protect their fishing also they haven’t got the slightest bit of interest in barbel and thirdly why would you claim a barbel record if you were fishing for carp
Some of the massive Thames Barbel that have been documented over the last few seasons are anglers fishing for carp and barbel.Plenty of carbelers fishing the river.

Don't think you've got to even name the river mark...Look at the current record.

you could turn that around and say
what's the issue in people not interested in claiming the record ? especially as has happened when its landed by people fishing for another species

you have answered your own question.. fish that have been “documented “ i’m sure there’s others that haven’t

if i caught a 20lb barbel from the nene there’s only a couple of people i would tell and that’s because i know they wouldn’t tell anyone else .. otherwise i’m not going to get a swim for the foreseeable future

it wouldn’t take an expert or very keen big fish hunter to work out which part of the nene i fish….. there’s miles and miles of the ivel but it was the same quarter mile of bank where the big girl used to come out that was rammed before being ottered…. go up there in the summer months these days at the start of the season you might bump int 4-5 people .. or 1or 2 in the winter…. i wonder why that is ?

Plenty of Big girls in the Thames Terry
Absolutely miles of river.

That’s my whole point Dave there’s miles and miles of river…… but some anglers want to jump on the back of other anglers hard work…they don’t want to put in hours of blanks……why do you think anglers like Phil smith were fishing the Ivel when the big girl was about…because I’m 99% sure he don’t live in Biggleswade
big fish attract hoardes of anglers that’s why Cromwell weir is booked 365 days of the year and I can tell you it’s not for the beautiful scenery
