It’s a tad premature granted because I haven’t even seen my new rods. However I’ve had confirmation today they are done, passed QC and ready for pickup. Excited isn’t close to the word!!
I’ll update the thread as I get on and obviously a picture speaks a thousand words so we shall include one or two of those too when I’ve got them.
I ordered 2 x Harrison torrix11’ 1.75 from Mark Tunley. I chose this because at 11 foot it’s going to be far better for the smaller backwaters and tight swims but not hinder me at all to fish the main river either. 11 foot seems perfect for the job anywhere on the Nene, My 12’s are a bit pain in the really tight swims. Especially the backwaters.
Why torrix? Well obviously I want backbone power, lightness, slimness and quality so....... why not Torrix.
the spec
Traditional Full cork obviously. Nothing else feels nicer in the hand imo.
Fuji alconites absalutely. I Don’t see the point in skimping on rings on a custom Harrison. It’s like buying a Lamborghini and Fitting it with remoulds.
two white bands on the tip as I like to see both the white and the dark for various backgrounds and Mark has also put isotopes on the tips for me.
The little bit of a tackle tart in me has also asked for the claret red blanks as I do like them a lot Personally and mark has done a very subtle little extra whipping for me on the but sections just to personalise them a little bit (I don’t like names) so certainly not ott and function has been the 1st priority.
Mark is nothing less than brilliant to work with. if you haven’t spoken to him on the phone before, he’s got a great way with words and so approachable. I was waiting some time for the second rod blank to get to mark from Harrisons and I must of phoned him once a week asking if it had arrived. bless poor mark he must of been thinking to himself “FFS this bloke again” but he was really spot on. Kept me updated and never once did he not have the time to have a good general chat and put the fishing worlds to right.
I do hope he reads this because even before I’ve seen my rods I’d like to publicly thank the guy just for the communication experience alone.
I can’t really ramble on much more now until next week when I’ve picked them up. Then obviously I’ve got to christen them. (That Could be a while with my recent shameful 4 blanks in a row )
I’ll update soon. Next week can’t come quick enough.
