Think you may also find that some couriers have stipulations of packing type - i.e. cardboard.when i have posted rods i go to B&Q and buy a length of 4”guttering down pipe (about £5) and pack the rod in bubble wrap inside the pipe

They broke it through a plastic thick walled tube? That would take some real force. Are you sure your buyer isn’t pulling a fast one on youExactly what I did Terry.
jesus that would take some force to break thatExactly what I did Terry.
ditto it’s all part of the excitement of getting new rodsMark has no problem with you collecting them from him. Rods of that value it’s definitely worth the road trip. I’ve picked every rod up I’ve ordered from him. He’s flexible too with weekends and evenings if you give him notice.
Well showed me pictures. They broke it through a plastic thick walled tube? That would take some real force. Are you sure your buyer isn’t pulling a fast one on you
Possible I suppose!! It just sounds like that would be extremely hard to squash or bend without a tremendous amount of force applied. I could slam my car door on one of those thick plastic tubes and struggle to do it much harm.Well showed me pictures.
And no marks on the tube. I believe that it was smashed flat down causing the two heavier pieces to crack against each other. Despite the wrapping and rod bag.
The buyer said white marks inside the rod bag where it snapped the sections. Presume the flex of the tip section probably saved it.

Never use hermes. Total shambles. I worked 5 days for them before Christmas. Feel sorry for some of the people who do work there..... On 2nd thoughts, no I don't.I used to send rods all over mainly ups till they hiked the price, Hermes will only post up to 120cm but as far as I know fishing rods aren't on their no compensation list, always used a bit of down pipe from wicks mainly and it would take a lot of abuse before breaking, seams like we are going back to the dark ages courior wise . Most rods I've bought recently have been delivered by royal mails parcelforce 24 or 48 service ,including a 2 piece 15ft Anyfish beachcaster, and a 17ft acoylite, not good when muppets smash a new rod before its even used with now,t back either .
Im a postman of many years,i regularly deliver tarantulas and freshwater crabs to a couple of my customers via special delivery, and they all seem to get through unscathed lol, i have also seen a Hermes depot whilst delivering myself, wtf !!!Sorry to hear about your courier experience Graham. The list of restrictions left me wondering what is the point of UPS?Around us Hermes have a reputation for being hopeless - lucky if you receive your goods at all, broken or otherwise. I’ve received quite a few rods via courier over the years and never had one broken. Just lucky perhaps, although from memory most were delivered by Royal Mail. Guess worth checking which courier suppliers use from now on.
