Lathams internet shop Warning

I've just got a refund after a bit of research and finding a direct email address for Daniel Brydon to go with the phone number I found :)

I think my days of buying higher value items from the internet is over. I live near Leigh Tackle and NWAC plus can make it to Trafford Angling at lunch time.

Do not shop at lathams

I have just had a real trial trying to get a refund out of Lathams. They took online payment for a landing net handle on 16th July, delivered a cheap and nasty "alternative" (the kind of telescopic fibreglass handle that costs £3.95 from Aldi) on 19th July, I called them to ask for a refund the same day, they collected the handle by courier on 27th July and I have since had to call them and leave messages 7 times and email them twice to ask them for the refund they promised. I had no reply to either phone calls or emails.

I have just used the number that Neil posted on here to get in touch with Daniel Brydon and he has given me a refund while I waited for him to do that on the phone.

If I hadn't seen this thread and that phone number I doubt very much I would have ever got a refund. Pity I didn't see this thread before buying from them - what a complete waste of time! DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!

Here's a few more lines to help this thread show up in Google searches (which is how I found it!)...

I actually said earlier in this thread that it would be wrong to pre judge Lathams, I think now we all can see that this company should be blacklisted.
Well done Will on getting a refund :)

I ordered a JW Young 12ft barbel rod back in July after getting bored of not winning one on eBay.

I added some size 22 hooks priced at £0.15 to take me over the £50 threshold and thus qualify for a £5 discount on my order.

So the rod and hooks cost me £50.14 :) It arrived within a few days so my own experience had been pretty good, excellent price and a straightforward transaction.

Anyone who is thinking of ordering, just put the stuff in your basket but don't complete the transaction. You will likely received an email and a £5 discount voucher from Lathams within 24 hours.

Dare I suggest that for hooks and sundry items the BFW shop is excellent, always had excellent service and they have most of the bits that I want. I have also had good service from Leslie's of Luton as well for the hooks that Andy doesn't have.

However Sheffield is very well served with local tackle shops, Billy Clarke's is a fine shop for its size the there is always Climax when I can be bothered to go.

Bait is problem now and I am having to resort to mail order, I hate paying so much postage.

I just ordered a Shimano Baitrunner & bits from Climax by phone. Turned up next day (although I didn't pay for the "extra fast" delivery) and had a nice chat with the staff member. Very happy.

I would'nt think that anyone will be thinking of ordering from them after the amount of bad experiences written on this thread

I read the thread with interest. However, when I did my Google search to get the rod it didn't occur to me that the one with the best price was the one in this thread. I had no problems with buying from them so I thought I would post my experience here.

I ordered a rod from Lathams on 1st of August, received it 4th of August,Shakey mach 1xt 10ft specialist for the Wandle,so I must have been lucky,or the ones with poor service unlucky.

If I can't make it to the tackle shop then I always use Leslies of Luton. They despatch items quickly and keep you informed about the order status, they also allow paypal now so some added security there.Must have used them around 40 times now and never had a problem.I have also used the Tackle Box a couple of times for mail order items and also been satisfied.

There are a multitdude of e-bay tackle retailers and most are fine, just check their feedback before using them.

I agree with Steve that Tackle Box and especially Leslies of Luton offer first class mail order facilities.
