Loverly, looking forward to hearing what’s been done. Mine is almost finalised for the spec builders pinned up saving up the penny’s nowI'm glad, picked mine up from Huanzhou this past weekend and that matt grey blank looks a nice finish, heading up to Roger this Sat to discuss the build, and looking forward to it.
I would be too Daniel! Mine won't be started till June / July I asked casually on completion dates, he started to get tongue tied the poor chap, so I just placed my hand on his shoulder & said relax, do it at your own speed... The relief was clear to see the poor bloke. Really slammed up with Freespirit orders for tackle shops. So I didn't want to add to his stress levelsExactly what my builder said funny enough he’s doing something I can say I’ve seen done before it has but watch this space . My price was reasonable so I’ve been able to start it be done by the season open hes mega excited.
You won't regret it. Money well spent!Up at the crack of dawn this morning, for the long drive up to meet Roger Hurst at his rod building premesis.
What a nice chap he is by the way! Reminded me a little of the late Terry Lampard in that he was a little chap, quiet & unassuming, yet you knew by speaking to him he knows his stuff!
We went through what we needed, and I was pleased to hear him say, that this build makes a really nice change from all the Carp orientated builds he's constantly doing. Never seen so many Freespirit blanks in my life!
But tired now after the 6 hr round trip, but happy he's doing a couple of one offs for me, and I'm hoping the whipping colours & various other bits come together the way I see them in my mind.
Just bracing myself for the costs to come through at some point!
Will need to off load some unused rods I think... Which makes sense to doYou won't regret it. Money well spent!
I had my peregrine Avon out with me this morning. A true joy to behold. Oozes class, unlike the numpty user. Blanked again! Will need to off load some unused rods I think... Which makes sense to do
But a nice day to blank my friend!I had my peregrine Avon out with me this morning. A true joy to behold. Oozes class, unlike the numpty user. Blanked again!
I'm sure Fuji Torzite are made with a titanium frame, that will keep them light Huanzhou.Unfortunately, due to the work load of Roger has, he's unable to build the rods for me, so I think I will go for the Buzz rods, and I am open to suggestions for other builders.
Since my blanks are burgundy, I will go for black wrapping with golden trim like the one attached. The only thing I am not sure yet is the guides, I know the original uses Kigan rings, but I do want something lighter, but not as expensive as Fuji Torzite, still thinking.

Yeah, I guess Buzz is my best bet so far. Eden rods are nice, but I am not sure they still operating? Their Facebook pages doesn’t update more than a year and the website is down as well.I'm sure Fuji Torzite are made with a titanium frame, that will keep them light Huanzhou.
Graham from Buzz Rods was happy to help with my initial enquiry, & approachable! (His work look great from what I've seen too)
Eden Rods, are on another level of craftsmanship in my opinion.
Just a shame Mark Tunley won't build on your own supplied blanks, but understand why he doesn't when he's missing out marking up the prices on the blanks he supplies. But I know he'd say he has to make a living etc
Plus I guess if there's an issue with the blanks, he doesn't want the hassle, like he would take on if he'd supplied them.
I see why all the fuss now! It looks quite gorgeous.Just wanted to share what the original Kingfisher Chub specialist rod looked like. Just found the images. Paired with that centrepin was good fun.
Yes torzite are titanium. I had roger put them on my torrix 12. If Peregrine is still operating he is as good as it gets.and would always be my first call.I'm sure Fuji Torzite are made with a titanium frame, that will keep them light Huanzhou.
