Hardy marksman supero barbel rods.....

One thing I don’t really like about the hardy rod is the reel seat, it’s high quality and nice, but holding a metal in your hand during the winter is not a really pleasant experience
Try the fuji soft feel reel seat on your next build. I have it on my second torrix. Very comfy

Yes I always did. But couldn't find a new one so trued to get a coster updat from tt but they were stuck in transit so a delayed launch. Went back to roger and he made a harrison avon for me last year. Excellent but for true beauty the hardy shades it.
Would quite like an 11.6 Avon...

I thought TT only does a 11ft 1lb Avon? Did you have the chance to try those rods?

No. They do floats and feeders too in addition to the avon. When I heard it was 1lb I. felt I needed a little more as I normally fish with a polaris ledger float. I thought they were a little bullish at launch with their prices, after all, they are unproven and have no actual track record, and I see now they are priced a little more realistically imho

oh, I was referring to the Avon rang only, I am interested in their bomb and the float rods, but tbh, even at the current price, I still don’t know if it is worthy it.

Just coming back to your question Huanzhou, I really would like to try the revamped hardy clone rods specc'd by dave Coster. For the 50 years I worked , I never held a rod. Coming back to fishing after a 50 year gap was extremely interesting and I realized things had changed so much that I started buying , using and selling on to hopefully improve on what I had reels initially and later rods. I have the view that a rod expertly designed 20 years ago, within the parameters of materials then available would ideally be the best there is. The marksman range say is at the pinnacle. But as time passes and materials change can perfection be improved upon? I would say undoubtedly yes, but then I am a idiot of long practice. I would love to handle the new TT rods as against a marksman and truly compare. What is said about the new tt rods maybe just sales hype. If we were talking about a car, most have a dream car or cars in the past we lusted over , but couldn't afford. Drive it 20 years later when used to the myriad improvements made in the intervening years and I defy most not to say, not for me! I have wanted to ask this question before but fear starting a heated debate. That is not my purpose, all views are subjective but the chance to compare marksman then and now I am finding almost irresistible! But I think TT are missing a brilliant opportunity at PR. perhaps there is a reason why they don't issue the challenge. Now that an interesting thought! best wishes Alec

I think you are right. When I buy a rod I want to know if they hold their value. Some drop like a stone and I avoid those. When I had what I call a big win selling a hardy I blew the profit on importing 2 sportex rods from Germany. would never have done that with real money as I know the cost is unrecoverable. But he rods are brilliant..I did have a change of circumstance and thought to sell so tested the water but fortunately I saw sense quickly.

I have looked at the TT rods on there site time and time again and really like the look of the 13ft float but just have no feedback on it over than under they was using those rods in the latest Mortimer and Whitehouse series. Has any had or know any one that’s used these rods?

Although I’m in love with my Acolyte plus 13 at the moment does everything I need other than big river fish and even then it’s not totally impractical.

Yes, intruiged to
know too Daniel. Good question

There’s quite a difference between the 11ft Hardy Avon Supero and the 11ft 6” I have caught barbel on both, but the shorter 1lb tc rod has a much more through action, whereas the 1.3tc longer rod has more backbone in the butt section. I’ve had fish into double figures on the 11ft 6” rod and always felt in control. I didn’t always feel in control with the 11ft version.

For the type of small river fishing I do, the 11ft 6” rod can’t be beaten for me and one of the pair gets almost daily use. Its light in the hand too, and I fish it with Shimano aero 5000 xr and it’s a perfect pairing. Today, that rod landed me my 125th barbel of the season.

Have a close look at the spec's of the tt rods, they arn't exactly light!
I'd stick with your acolyte if I was you.

TT were telling people to trade their old marksman rods in for the upgraded tt rods, then tt would sell the hardy rods for top dollar!

there is a 12 feeder TT on ebay special offer new at 190.Temped but think still a little bullish. The seller says its better than his hardys but then again that is all I have read so far, from sellers, manufacturers and promoters. Still think TT are missing a serious PR opportunity which makes me suspicious. They are in Weston SM now. They should be asking someone like Roger to put them to the test. If he approved, they would be magical.Ha! ( thats meant for those who know and appreciate him)
