Hardy marksman supero barbel rods.....

.....I have a pair of them, brand spanking new and unused from new. The rods have a solid top section and also have a quiver section and various quivers. These rods really do look and feel fantastic. Despite having owned them for a number of years i've never got round to using them due to 99% of my fishing being trotting a float.
I've only ever seen one other marksman supero barbel rod for sale, and that was a good few years back.
Reason for mentioning these rods is i'm curious if anyone else has them, or has ever had and used them?

I've got two of the original (not Supero)Marksman 14ft float rods, one unused.

Wonderful rods.

I would think the Barbel rods are rare as Hens dentures.

I had two of the original specialist 14 footers also, I sold one and like you I still have a new one to fondle lol.

Yes Graham, that's why i'm asking on here, I figured with all the barbel anglers on here surely someone owns one or has used one.
As you say they do seem to be a bit scarce.

I have probably had around 18/20 through my hands. The only one I never saw was the barbel twin tip. Congratulations. It took me 3 years to find the 12 x 2 lb barbel. I presumed the twin tip was this rod and the quiver was from a 12 but that depends on whether its a 2 or 3 pce rod. I would love to know. They were easily bought at around 360 when I bought my new 13 float from bobco. Never seen one on ebay in 6 years of looking. I suspect you can name your price. I think my float still holds top fee for an extreme float at about 472 on ebay but yours will surpass that easily.

It's a 12ft 3 piece rod. It has a carrier section for the quiver tips. The rod is very slim and powerful and could be used to trot a float, but it certainely isn't as lightweight as a designated float rod for that purpose. The rods are so well made and finnished they are nice just to look at!
A few pictures for you Alec....

Thanks. I felt the 12' specimen, a 2lb barbel was a little stout to be honest.. it performed well though. I do have the 2009 catalogue and if anyone would like it just pm with your email no and I will send.. the supero catalogue stayed on line for about a year after pure pulled the plug. Every supero I bought thereafter I contacted hardy and they sent a copy of the page. I do have a number so if anyone wants a copy of their rod catalogue page, just say and if I have I will send. I need now to see where the top quiver section on your rods came from. I will look tomorrow.

I Have 2 of the original smuggler avon rods, one is the ultralight the other is the specimen avon, also have the telescopic net handle to accompany them, they are absolutley superb rods, would'nt part with em for all the tea in china,as has been said very rarely come up sale but when they do they usually go for near double their retail price

I bought a pre production smuggler. It had no decals and was emerald green. It came from a hardy rep who trialled it in the south East. My pal in Manchester has it now. Even dave coster who managed the design of thr supero and the launch had never heard of the colour. Ha!

One thing I remember is that the specialist avon is about 1lb TC, but the suggest line rating is 6-12lb, surprisingly high for light TC.

The line rating probably relates to the true test breaking strain not the line manufacturers declared breaking strain. When you consider that many so called 8lb lines actually have a breaking strain close to 12lb the a line rating of 6-12lb for an avon makes a bit more sense.
