I think it's just that there is a shortage of KY Stephen, caused by the fact that the government has commandeered the lot to ease the passage of all the new 'austerity measures' they announce almost daily. Strangely, when all these measures are analysed by independent economists, they ALWAYS seem to be affecting the lower paid and pensioners more than the wealthy. Now who would have thought that from a Tory government, especially one that keeps spouting about 'How shocked they are at the extent to which the wealthy are engaged in tax avoidance'
. Never mind, they promise they are going to 'do something about it', and I am jolly sure they are an honest lot. Oh....hold on....the're MPs aren't they? Weren't MPs in general the lot who were fiddling their expense accounts a while back, with some going to prison as a result? Oh dear....not sure who to turn to for help in that case
Maybe I am just being pessimistic and cynical, surely they know what they are doing, and it will all be good in the end
On the other hand, our dearly beloved George Osbourne 'lent' the IMF another £10,000,000,000 the other day, bringing the total we have 'lent' them to bail out failing European economies to £40,000,000,000. This without going back to the house for consultations, and in face of screams from even his own party that it was 'throwing good money after bad'. Two days after he did this, it was announced that our economy had dropped back into the dreaded 'double dip' recession, and was now in a very parlous state indeed. Which of course means there will need to be MORE austerity measures, which of course will be tailored to hit the poorest members of our society....and the rich will get richer, because they will be reaping the massive profits from the utility companies they run, amongst the many other rip off's and other delights they specialise in.
Do I see any hope that THIS government will notice the plight of our rivers, will spot the
apparent madness of the bodies running them, and do something about it? Does anybody believe that? Send your answers on toilet paper please, so that they at least will serve some purpose
Cheers, Dave.
