Dying on it's backside.

I assume by "The Dark Side" you chaps are referring to “The Barbel Society

I am not a member, did consider it once but some rather vitriolic comments put me off (to be honest, I get more than enough nasty comments via PM, E-mail and text messages,) so I declined their kind offer (my lines are too light anyway, in more than one sense), thus I obviously miss out on some of what goes on.

I do, however, wonder why people that obviously have rather a lot in common make such efforts to inflame and undermine each other, these same people can be absolutely charming face to face, yet savage from a keyboard.

It is for those reasons that I am rather reluctant to share my own experiences via public forums, I suppose that if others feel as I do, then it is no surprise that this format for anglers to communicate will suffer!

Justin one what was set up with good intentions for some nuisance guys as a diversification from them ruining threads with sometimes less than delicate comments and drivel, nobody really wants to even mention the site.
Keith i dont think its the B/S mate

Oh dear.

Just had a look myself and it would appear that I have offended someone called "Tinca" (presumably, a manhood related nickname). I dare say its because one of my peccadillos is the use words containing more than one syllable. I also found it hilarious that the outrage exhibited at the banning and the calls for reinstatement are more than matched by highly derogatory comments about BFW and just what a terribly dull place it is. Why do the members care so much to warrant this level of comment? And why do they visit this site so regularly if it's so boring ? Of course, it's their lack of imagination and creativity hence the complete reliance on Anglo Saxon vocabulary.

And who designed the website? A child? An otter?

Amazing.

Yes I did notice, but they have been easy on you, I have a FATWA that has not been fulfilled as yet (obviously) However you are well deserving of their attention being so articulate and witty, so why they should pick on yours truly is a mystery.
Its all smoke and mirrors really nothing is what it appears anymore, 'they' barely plural, are intent for some reason to bring this site down, and yet they are failing and serve only to make themselves look sad and hopeless.
But I do look in on them occasionally and I must admit I find them uplifting in a way in thinking there but for the grace.....

Barbel Fishing Ain't My World

Be careful though some serious hard case keyboard warriors there.

Neil, i have popped in there to see wots wot and LOW and behold a post has been made using my name, BEWARE WHERE YOU FISH! thats not aimed at anyone on bfw, if they look on facebook and run the name Lee Walker martial arts may may think twice because him and my other two sons are not happy bunnies, they can also find him if they google Master Angelo go into his site and take a peek faceless geezer, annoyed me? not at all but try to tar me and your in DEEP TROUBLE

Ahhhh! Thanks Neil.

I wrongly assumed that you chaps were referring to a serious angling website!

Hard case warriors? I think not.

Small minded idiots that hide behind pseudonyms is much more to the point.

I must say I am deeply interested to meet one of these particular individuals, face to face on the river bank, so that I may share my very particular opinion on a subject of mutual interest.;)

I have been offered 'a meet' with Coops and Co. even had someone track me down to where I live John, most have multiple accounts I have been told, so you are not dealing with many but just one or two, however as is always the case you meet them bankside they are as friendly as anyone else, this interweb thing corrupts simple minds.

Take care John.:)

Rob, made me laugh a lot. One things for sure......

They'll be prettier!!! :D:eek:

Interesting that someone that hasn't posted for 2 plus years comes back and joins us at this "difficult" moment

Must get to see the old fellah.

Good Lord Neil, I see what you mean. You've certainly got some admirers over there haven't you. Perhaps you should give the ball back now then.

The present should always remember the past in order to go forward towards the future

Dear All,

It is interesting to note that within the barbel fishing community there are numerous "tribes" seemingly hell bent on taking heads from each other's tribe. For the purpose of shrinking presumably? Also interesting to note is there is a fair chance that the very same tribes get on like a house on fire in person or out along the river bank? Internet forums are a bit like road rage in that some can start honking their horns at the slightest thing. But if you think barbel fishing is bad go and look at the pike anglers!! Worse still go look at some of the gardening forums!!!

Way back internet angling forums were very much driven by the many topics, or for Damian, "issues" that were being debated around that time. The NASA was being taken over, some say by stealth, by their political arm the SACG. That issue alone kept the boards on Anglers Net aflame for several years and caused major divisions within the specialist angling world. The creation of the SAA was another major issue (I was one of the SAA founding members) that embroiled specialist angling. The creation and later failure of the NAA was another big issue as was the creation of the AT and the dissolution of the ACA into it in the form of Fish Legal. Then there was the Adams Mill and Kickles Farm fiasco's that kick started the barbel fishing wars, the same war which remains to this day. Tagged onto all these issues were a great many more where passionate anglers who cared for their sport in equal measure faced each other on opposing sides of arguments going off on the internet forums.

Not only did some of these arguments "shape" some of angling's future in the UK, it also helped to establish many of the angling internet forums and websites who up to the point that these arguments were being made were really struggling to get off the ground. These sites all owe a great deal of their existence to the days when "issues" were debated openly on internet forums.

Regards,

Lee.

Seems a bit unfair that I should have so many followers /stalkers, I don't really know what I have done to deserve it, but you know the saying the only thing worse than no one talking about you etc etc...

And.... so they have probably had more views to-day then the last year, but to be fair I think they average about 5/6 posts a busy day, can't think why

All very well Lee, but the site in question is none of the above.

No he's quite right Neil, well partly anyway, barbel fishing aint my world was the place everyone who did nothing but spout vitriolic, spiteful rubbish was told to **** off to. Thankfully however the BFW of today bears no resemblance to the BFW of those times, as other sites similarly.
