Drennan 11ft 10" DRX River Feeder rods

As Alan says they did a 13’ 10”, 12’ 10” and 11’ 10” river version. I have a pair of the 13’ 10”s and a 12’ 10. They are my go to normal level Barbel / Chub / Bream feeder rods on the Middle Severn. Plenty of power, and fairly light (much lighter than Acolyte Distance Feeder rods, which I use...

    Anyone fished the River Ock?

Big barbel near the fire station I heard.

    Ship inn highley

Just been sent a video of the fire. Not good 😞

    Bank tramp or tackle tart?

I’m a bit of a tart… In the autumn / winter I take a cordless jet wash to give my box a blast down before it goes back in the truck (just to get the bulk of the mud off). It uses the same batteries as my groundbait drill which is useful. As I fish matches i tend to completely empty out my...

    Prolonged heat

😂 While I remember, can you get me some more of those lobworms for Sunday from that place near you buddy? Mine are all dying in this heat

    Prolonged heat

Lads if this ever happens to you one trick is to have two guys pulling, and have a third gently tapping the joint. It’s quite a common occurrence when pole fishing, and that usually does the trick.

    Prolonged heat

Get your club to get a Polaris and check the water like mine has. I’ve even posted you up the tables to check against.

    Prolonged heat

Absolute over reaction to blanket shut rivers. Perhaps you could post some actual data and facts like I have and back up why they should shut? I’ve not seen a single DO result below the normal threshold yet, let alone any causes for concern. A lot of parroting and virtue signalling going on at...

    Prolonged heat

Be about 65C for sub-lethal and 80C for lethal. I reckon you’d probably have poached barbel before they ran out of oxygen at saturation point.

    Prolonged heat

Perhaps all Barbel could be moved into stillwaters where the water can be aerated year round regardless of conditions?

    trotting rod

Do you own / have you used one? Strange comment as I’ve had the odd barbel and plenty of chub on my acolyte float rods without issue. My “out and out” Barbel float rods are Shimano Beastmasters, 13ft for waggler (I’d prefer 14ft, but waiting for one to come up) and 15ft for bolo/avon/stick.

    Prolonged heat

But they’re not “suffering to the point of killing aquatic life” …

    Prolonged heat

I think a few are getting confused with the consequences of the lowered oxygen saturation point with increasing temperatures. We are not going to see water temps get to a level where at saturation point there isn’t enough oxygen for coarse fish. The important reading is the dissolved oxygen...

    Hooking Maggots for Barbel

Sizes 12-20 super spades depending on how many maggots you want to present. Hooklength for Barbel would be something like 0.19 or 0.21 Preston reflo, starting at 1m and lengthen if you’re struggling for bites, and shorten if you are missing them (more likely to be Dace or Chub than Barbel in...

What are your targets for the new season?

Soil plays a big part in a lot of match fishing groundbait mixes for silverfish. The idea being it’s 1) an attractor with low feed content 2) some soils are used for their higher density to help sink groundbait in deep water I’m lazy and buy it from tackle shops rather than go riddling molehills 😂

What are your targets for the new season?

Fishing the Div 2 National on the Warwickshire Avon, and the Bridgnorth Winter League on the Severn will be the highlights for me.

    Drennan Matchpro Super Feeder 12ft

Hi Duncan, Completely depends on the conditions… I’ve got glass and carbon tips in slow and fast tapers in everything from 1/2 oz to 6oz. Try starting with something like a 3oz carbon tip and just figure out what works best for you in different conditions. Sam

    Drennan Matchpro Super Feeder 12ft

I own one and they are more than capable of handling barbel and chub. Usually use mine with 8lb or 10lb line.

    River temperature taking

These give dissolved oxygen levels as well as temperature, but they are a bit pricy!
