When I started fishing on the Teme, in the mid 80’s the river had a huge population of small barbel. But it was a nightmare to fish for them after dark as you got plagued with bootlace eels no matter what bait you used and otters were regularly spotted on the stretch I fished.
The otters...
Got a drennan and used it a lot over the last 2 seasons. After a few sessions it refused to lock in position but after a strip down and clean with WD40 have not had a problem. Would recommend it to anybody.:)
Choose a method and stick to it. If you switch and change you end up doing nothing properly. If the chub are there and feeding the'll have just about anything you offer them. (If there feeding):o
Very pleased with mine.
Been using the Drennan handle this season, only problem I've had was accidently pulling it apart becuase I didn't see the marks on the inner section, but it was easy enough to put back together and I've now extended the painted line all the way round.
Although it may be starting to go a bit cold now bread on the top is always a good bet in weedy swims. When the weed dies back ledgered bread should work in any swim containing chub.

Bite alarms are noisy and annoying and putting to much bait in can ruining a swim for the next angler. But as you say each to there own. As long as it makes them happy. :)

Hello Terry.
Had quite a few chub on all varieties of slug and a few on snail's, bigger the better for both. Yet to catch a barbel on either.
A mate catches chub regularly on prawn, mostly in the winter, but rarely hooks a barbel.

This is the seat I use. Light weight, easy to carry and cost £1.99 from any DIY store or garden centre.
Not the most comfy but by the time your bum starts to get numb it's time for me to move anyway. :)

Don't leave it to long Alex. I'm still waiting for mine. Good job I don't do much closed season fishing or I'd be fishing illegally by now.:)
