going to give catching my first catfish a bash. Not allowed to use deadbaits because of pike. was assuming hair-rigged large pellet or luncheon meat. Any tips on length of hair/ prebaiting etc would help. Many thanks.

Been following this post from the start! And the cormorant thing has become a problem on our lovely small river, not so much in summer, but when the local lakes freeze ARGHH!! Think there is another post about reporting cormorants to try and get an organised petition on culling ( I think)...

the marco reel is a great addition to my armoury as well, glad it was from the wandle too!! This great little river is slowly recovering from it`s recent setbacks!! Hope to meet up on the banks soon!

Exactly what I did Saturday, with the river well up loads of line on the bed a small bend in tip , exageratted by weed collecting on line, a few taps on rod , line moving, wound down small strike to make sure and hey presto fish on.
