Touch Ledgering - is it worth it?

Hi Simon, Hope you are well, etc. Agree with what you say - for some it is about the fishing, for others it's just about the fish..... Best wishes, Steve

    moving swims

I'll second that and reiterate David's point about not overfeeding. Feed less and cast as little as possible and you won't go far wrong. Steve

How do you deal with growths?

Hi Ray, I'm afraid I didn't take a picture. I did at the time think of your collection of photographs of deformities of Royalty barbel but decided I did not want to start my own.... The growth was walnut sized and round. It looked like a ball of spaghetti if that is of any use? When you say...

    moving swims

Cannot argue with that - sound advice. I tend to avoid PVA bags in the summer and feed either by hand or catapult to spread the bait around a bit more and get the fish moving. I feed no more than 15 pellets into a swim, only introducing more if I get a bite. I do, however, sometimes use a...

How do you deal with growths?

Thanks for the replies chaps (and nice to see so many fellow Loddonites posting). We have all reached the same conclusion, which is nice, but if the fish looked ill or if it appeared that feeding might be impaired I would probably reach the opposite conclusion on the basis that the fish might...

How do you deal with growths?

I caught a fish yesterday which, although it was superbly conditioned (and almost as fat as me), had a walnut sized growth in the corner of its mouth. I deliberated as to whether I should try to remove it and concluded that as the fish was so healthy looking (apart from the growth!) and had...

    Loss of River Thames fishing

    Done. Best of luck, Steve

    air pressure

Dave, Are you primarily a deadbait angler? From my piking days high pressure = livebaits while low pressure = deads. In those days fishing resevoirs it was always possible to fish a number of rods and have a combination of livlies and deadlies but the above trend was rarely bucked. Steve

    Piling the bait in

Hi Graham, Overbaiting is a huge problem and it seems that many otherwise good anglers just cannot resist piling bait in. On rivers like the Loddon and St Pats at this time of year it's the kiss of death - I have hardly fished one stretch of the Loddon for the last two seasons because it is...

    Do we really care ?

Blimey, I'll be taking the grandchildren along - or they will be taking me!!!

    Do we really care ?

Hi Graham, Ian and all. I agree with Ian's hypothesis but we will never be able to prove it. The one thing I disagree on is the length of recovery time. To get the fishing we were used to three years ago I think we are looking at nearer 20 years. In terms of adapting to the altered...
