I haven't fished for barbel for two seasons now but have decided to give my small local river a go. As far as I know none have been caught for a few years intentionally. However a couple of small ones were caught during a EA fish survey. The river has the normal problems otters and crayfish. So...
I have one which I used when I fished the kennet, it is the Mk11 and yes it is possible to feel a bit of movement when playing a fish using pressure on the edge of the drum but it wasn't much and didn't really detract from the pleasure of using a pin.
As I only used it for static ledgering I...
I'm enjoying it, I doubt it would be possible to make a fishing program everyone liked. I had the same op as Bob so it's good to see him looking well. It may make a few people think about changing their lifestyles a bit which can't be bad.
Worth have having a look at the Drennan 7 Series Avon's the 1 1/2 is a great rod for float fishing and ledgering, and the quiver tip section is useful if you want to fish maggot feeder etc with lighter lines and smaller hooks.
I think this is the model I travelled some distance to buy only to find the stated weight of 3.2kgs was out by about 4 or 5kgs. So if you want a light chair I would check first.
The reels are pretty much the same spec so it probably comes down to whether you want the Quick Drag facility or not. If you don't then the ninjas may be better for barbel as I guess the lower gearing would make them tougher?
I have the 3000 size legialis reels for chub they are good reels for the money. I’d probably go for the probably go for the 4000 size for barbel though. I my opinion they are far better than cheap baitrunner reels.
Trying to decide whether to get the Fox Royal Specialist 1.5 Multi-tip Barbel Rod or the Drennan 7 Series Avon 1.5 does anyone have any experience of these rods?
I have been using a Drennan Series 7 1 1/4 Avon with the quiver top for chub fishing on the Thames but it doesn't seem particularly good for striking at bites presumably as it has a through action. i was thinking about getting a Korum 60 gram 3 Piece feeder rod as it sounds about right for where...
My season never started, I pondered renewing the ticket for the stretch I have fished for the previous three seasons, but as results were so bad it I didn't rejoin. So I haven't got the rods out yet this season. On the plus side I haven't spent a small fortune on petrol traveling to the river 3...
Yes John the TDR's are good as are the Matchwinners and the Theory SP's, but would a 4012 or 3012 the drag washers etc are probably the same so which would perform better?
I'm wondering if the diameter of a reels spool influences how good the drag is. Is a large diameter spool better than a small diameter spool or small better than large?
