    BBC2, 8pm tonight

Otters are playful, adaptable and champion swimmers - they've captivated cameraman Charlie Hamilton James for the last 25 years. He's filmed them more than anyone else and now, through the eyes of three orphaned river otters, a set of ground-breaking experiments and some incredible wild...

Things that go bump in the night

Strange you should say that Neil, at the end of last season, whilst fishing the opposite bank to Pixham, one of the guys fishing at the Pixham stretch found a sheep's hoof, freshly separated from the rest of the animal...... Odd indeed!

So where is everyone going on the glorious 16th?

I catch my share Mark, 9's a plenty last year, just one double from the Lower, and one from the middle. Maybe it will change this season.....not that there's anything wrong with 9's anyway, a few of those will do me this coming weekend.

So where is everyone going on the glorious 16th?

I'm in two of those now. Never kind to me though, the Severn.

So where is everyone going on the glorious 16th?

Plenty of those in there Mark, had one myself end of last season. It's the Severn for me to start, I'll probably split my time this season between Lower Severn and WA.

    River feeder rod.

    I've got a Series 7 1.25lb that I use for chub, it's a lovely little rod Neil.

    wye usk prices

it's obvious they don't want barbel anglers on there.....only to subsidise the salmon guys.

    Environment Agency Licence Check

I got checked on the Lower Severn in February, via boat. I do like this boat idea, they can cover miles and miles or river, probably catch more who haven't got licences also.

    Centrepin reel cases?

They look quality Chris, the Ikonix ones have arrived, my pins are wide drums, so they're a bit of a tight fit, but I'll see how it goes, I might upgrade to the LA ones, 10 quid a pop is reasonable.

    Centrepin reel cases?

ive ordered a couple of the ikonix ones that a couple of lads have mentioned from ebay....thanks to all that replied. £3.70 each!

    Centrepin reel cases?

Anyone know where I can get hold of a couple of those neoprene cases for my pins? Ive got two 4.5" ones, and want the ones i can use both off and on the rod. Oh, and cheap will do just fine!

    The Great Rod Divide(?)

I use a Daiwa Infinity 1.75, which is a lovely rod...I also use a Daiwa Theory, a third of the price... and to be honest, I can hardly tell the difference. They both do the job just fine. Have been tempted by a pair of Torrix rods a number of times, but they're not going to catch me any more...

Spot on Lloyd..best post on this thread so far.

    The next barbel river record

I match fish commies in the summer Mark, some of which are stocked with barbel. They rarely get bigger than 4lb I've found, presumably for the reason you've stated. They're always the first victims of fish kills too, in summer when O2 levels drop.

    The next barbel river record

I suspect there may be a 17 or two in the WA Chris....we both probably know where, but I doubt whether a record is present. Severn has the best chance of both rivers, and again, we both know the bloke that would do it if anyone can. Agree with your Trent vote....that's the most likely...
