Given that most fisheries other than Sussex rivers will be devoid of anglers, I might head to the home of the monster Three-Spined Stickleback. I didn’t actually know such a fish existed but I won’t be leaving the venue until I’ve bagged the beast.
And my photo will be considerably better than...
Thanks for that Terry- reminded me that I have been looking to hear a comparison of these two rods. I have the SU 13ft power float rod which I love and have wondered about the barbel rods. Picked a few up and they do feel wonderfully light- important as I do a fair bit of touch ledgering.
Agree Mark. It was all a bit unconvincing. It’s probably just me, but I cant see how your average sized eel could easily consume an average sized crayfish, unless it has python/anaconda type characteristics. And when I think about the frightening numbers of crayfish in the Kennet, how many eels...
This is awful, awful news and a real shock. I’m a regular visitor and have enjoyed lots of banter with him over the past 3 years or so. Cancer is a total f**ker.
I was going to say exactly the same thing. It’s a stunning fish. Pete’s a big bloke and the fish looks massive even set against his frame. You know it’s dedication and deep skill/watercraft that’s produced this fish of a lifetime.
What experience have folk had using fluorocarbon? I hair rig pellets sometimes on the Wye using the stuff and whilst it’s super stiff compared to braid, it hasn’t put the fish off (although I have mainly used it in the summer when the fish are feeding well etc.) and I’ve never had a break around...
I had a day fishing with Keith and he put me onto this line and it’s one I load up my pins for trotting too. It’s very strong for its diameter and pretty supple too. Saying that, I’ve not tied a knotless knot with it. I predominantly use braid (coated with the last section stripped) for hair...
As Graham says. Would also add that I’ve been a Wye local now for about 2 and a half years and fished a number of stretches of the Wye. I have only seen an otter on a couple of occasions and a few mink. This compares to the frequent sightings of otters on the Kennet. Pretty much every trip in...
Agreed Nick. Until you speak to the trappers and see them empty their traps into wheelbarrows that groan under the weight of these little shi*bags (the crayfish I mean, not the trappers) it can be hard to comprehend the level of infestation. The numbers that the trappers quote, even allowing for...
Hi Dave, personally I think conditions are much more important than a particular stretch. A Ross Town day ticket or Bishopswood will produce just as easily as the WUF beats albeit they should be quieter. Is there any particular area you are heading- Hereford or Ross for example? Both have good...
Neil- that’s totally shite and I feel for you. That must be hard on the family and really hope everything works out OK and soon!
Other than for the child, we abandoned presents this year and instead donated the money we typically spend to charity. This saved Mrs C from the typically fraught...
Totally agree (the first bit I mean). Fantastic forum and huge credit to Andy, the team and the contributors. All the best advice I have had has come from folk on here.
Merry Christmas all.
