I have just replaced mine - it was that worn that it would only lock when fully extended. I had a good 7years+ use out of it. Sand was the culprit scoring away on the internal surface, mine stopped when I cleaned it.

imo it is ok, I will only use a short length of mono between braid and swivel when I know I will be rubbing my braid against rocks if I hook a fish.
My hook lengths are always weaker than my main line and I don't use braid hook lengths.
And I prefer Fireline over the other...

I cannot really see what difference your mainline breaking strain is rated at - so long as the weakest link is you hook length. Just never pull for a break by bending your rod.
