    Changes to Rod License

Roach revivals are making a mockery of all sorts of theory's! They are coming out well over the 2lb magic marker on certain rivers in the North West - what cormorant problem?! :p With regards to the OP - a yearly licence makes more sense than the current seasonal one, scraping the junior licence...

    Tony Miles

Very sad news indeed. Herd of Tony's passing through social media and felt the need to post here as although I never met him in person he taught me so much from his writing. 2016 claims another legend.

    hooklink material advise

Me too - although I prefer the brown, blends better with the bottom of the Ribble.

    A rod for my boy...

Decent rods for kids are few and far between. I ended up making my own by taking the top 2 sections of a 12' 3 piece match rod, fitting a short handle to the mid section and re-spacing the guides. There are a few short rods starting to appear on the market these days so it may be worth looking...

    Chimera flood and snag

Keep a look out for a 2nd hand Snag n Flood Dave, it's awesome when putting the brakes on a big un. I've seen them go for as little as £70 in good condition.

    If??

I would love to fish with my Dad again, perhaps that will happen when my time ends. I was 11 when he died suddenly, and my parents had been separated since I was 4. My Dad bought a house in Poppleton which had the Yorkshire Ouse flowing by at the bottom of the garden and we basically learnt to...

    Clutch or backwind?

Off the clutch every time, front drag reels, far smoother than any rear drag.

How many rod rings on a 12' rod?

When you say 'feel nicer' do you mean simply it feels better to hold, probably because less rings makes it feel lighter, or was the fish playing action better? I'm with you on single leg guides and have them on all my specialist rods, yet to break one. We could do with several Hugo; " Which...

    Barbel conservation thoughts?

"pulled out" I hate that term - torn out would be more accurate. Messy - wouldn't happen with a micro barbed hook.

    Barbel conservation thoughts?

I always use barbed for big powerfull fish like Barbel, always barbless for small silvers ( bait catching! :) ). How many times do you need to hear it Russell before the penny drops and you do a bit of research on the subject?

    Trent Barbel

There's always the record that never was to compare it to: BFW Gallery The picture of the Trent fish is not a great angle to be able to judge the size accurately but it looks pretty big to me. Sadly, I fear the likely hood of seeing pictures of such fish and more importantly being able to...
