Tench 2023

A little story.

An old boy, bit worried about the possible weather decided not to venture a fair distance to a massive lake that he has spent over 100 hours blanking. The lake has a good head of tench, but they have not shown much at all this year so far with even the regulars blanking.

So he went to a local 2 acre lake that has nice carp to touching 30lb

It's just carp, but 11 or so years ago a tench was caught...
The owner says its the only one in the lake and has offered £100 to anyone that catches it each year
It came out just once in all those years, last year.

Well the old boy has just caught it!

And found out it was caught again last week!

No £100 for the old boy who can't decide if it's a change of fortune or a kick in the goolies.

We don’t believe the bloke who claimed to have caught it last week. Wack in a claim “Old Boy” 🤣🤣

Caught my first two tench of the year yesterday before the hailstones. Morning was summer, afternoon was winter.

Fished a couple of new pegs with my Dad on our usual tench water. Seen as I got the good peg last week it was his turn.

Although fishing only 10m apart he had a nice deep bay down to 15ft whereas I was in at most 5ft, and that was only a small bit of my swim, there was thick weed everywhere. Fed some corn on that line and boilies on another in about 3ft. Had 2 good bites straight away on boilie but both weeded me on the take.

The corn line started fizzing like a jacuzzi and i caught a nice 3lber, but that was it on that swim, kept fizzing away all day and tore up half a ton of weed that floated my way but no more bites...mustve tried everything but no luck. Had 2 more from random chucks at showing fish, biggest about 4.5lb. Frustrating but still a good day. My Dad started off slow but eventually had them feeding in the deep after putting 2kg of grounbait and 4 tins of sweetcorn in, finished with 6 fish to 6lb.

Happy days.

Had a great day today on my local. Fished from about 7am to 5pm had nine Tench with eight over 5lb topped by a cracking 8-11 female, also had a 20-09 Mirror which took a fancy to my four red maggots on a size ten. All the activity between 10am and 2:30pm.
Weather was pretty wet when I arrived but cleared by mid morning. NW/N wind was chilly but brolly did its job.

A good day for you. Well done. In Kent I take it. Used to work in Dartford 20 years ago. The tunnel/ bridge added years to my life.

Eight over 5lb topped by 8lb11 & a bonus carp sounds fantastic bill 💥🎣

Trip #2 today and what a trip. Fished from 6:45am - 3:45pm and had fourteen Tench ranging from 3lb 7oz to 6lb 9oz! I didn’t feed heavy, I considered it too early to hit them big I just fed the maggots via the feeder. The maggots were in a small amount of groundbait rather than maize and each feeder full of maggot contained some groundbait, that was my attractor. I would have been happy with a couple but to catch fourteen this early in the spring leaves totally blown away. I christened my new rods good and proper, new to me, not brand new 🤣….back soon !
I got one today Bill. First for 2 years I think! Plus 8/10 and 14 mirrors! All good looking fish. the 14 was on the avon fished with a polaris float. Took 10 mins or so to land but a great experience! All the others on a torrix 11 with spliced tip. Couldn't buy a bite on the Torr 12! That's fishing.

Excellent, corks out of the bottle now Alec, hopefully they’ll be like buses now 🤞
