Smaller Shimano Baitrunner. Like 5010? What's used these days??

got one of these looks and feels good so far.

IMHO they feel a more solid reel than the OC.
Hi Neil.
How do you mean feel more solid?

ive had them both stripped right out and carried complicated services on both Models and design wise they are identical. Feel wise through the handle they can’t be told apart unless one is faulty or worn.
Drag systems baring a water proof seal on the D are identical
Manufacturing materials are slightly different With the D been higher spec but that can’t be felt through the reels handle.
A lot of people think because shimano say the gearing or bearings are made from a higher spec material then the reel is bound to last much longer which is nothing more than total rubbish. A reel will last as long as you want it too.
if you service it properly once a year then the sales Pony from Shimano is irrelevant cos they’ll all last you a lifetime. Run any reel dry and give it abuse and it’s gonna fail. Yes some fail quicker but all WILL fail if left dry.
IMHO the OC ,(and I know them inside out back to front.) is as good as a D for specialist course anglers any day of the week.

Was fishing a flooded Thames last season and put my new pair of Thunnus to the test against a low mileage D,felt smoother and more solid retrieving 8oz leads.Of course any decent reels will last a lifetime with regular servicing.I think your missing the point.

i haven’t missed the point Dave.
I know little about the thunnus and for all I know it could be completely different in design.
but the D and OC share the same internal design with the differences more associated around material types.
