I've just remembered my 'Winter Motivation Tactic'
About 3 years ago I was celebrating my best friend's birthday in a pub on the way home from fishing. It was fairly local, off the beaten track, and we were having a few and playing pool. On the way back from the loo I missed a step, went
right over on my left ankle and went flat on the floor. I was pretty sure I'd broken it, but with ice and wet towels from behind the bar I managed to finish my beer, and the game (I didn't want to spoilt her day and, well, 50p is half a quid eh!). So on getting home (5 miles, all the way in 2nd gear
) it was a bucket of iced water and lashings of codeine.
Well with me only able to limp I ended up putting on over 7kgs, so bought a treadmill and a 10kg weight vest, and all through the winter I did between eight and ten 7 minute sessions a day** on the treadmill, with the front of it propped up on house bricks to give it the steepest incline possible. I lost 10kgs in under 3 months, got really fit, and strengthened my ankle muscles (to support the break ...yeah, yeah, I know, I should have gone to hospital but ....)
*** My 'Winter Motivation Tactic' was, and will be this winter .... if I go fishing then I don't have to do my hour on that ba$tard treadmill that day. Works for me
