(Light hearted banter) I seriously need to thin out my rods!

Ccoming back to fishing after a gap of 50 years, I did actually buy rods to see what they were like. This would have been virtually impossible pre ebay days. Maybe I have bought 150 plus rods in the last 14 years. Fished with all but a handful( ie didn't like them on arrival) and sold virtually all of them. This has been enormous fun. All due to reading about them and my own curiosity. This shows that whilst I can't claim to be much of a fisherman my retirement has been brilliant in a way I never thought possible. I have only got a dozen now. Sounds as though I need to buy more. Send me a list Julian, ha!
it’s the watches and cars that cause a problem… rods not so bad 😩

I have about 40 rods but that covers barbel, avon rods for other river fishing, carp rods, float rods from light to power, spinning rods - perch, pike, bass and salmom, fly rods - trout, grayling, salmon and bass/mullet. I could easily get rid of 10 but would struggle a bit after that.
Same in many respects 👍

Bloody long list! 😂😂

Cut my rod collection right back over the last year to just keeping the rods I use. Sold quite a lot of rods that were just sitting in bags for years doing nothing. I’m down to just afew pairs of specialist, barbel, pike rods and a good handful of my favourite float rods to cover all trotting case scenarios.

I don’t get sentimental about rods. I look after them but they are to be used or I sell and buy something else I’m more likely to use.

Yes. They only did specimen float in 13ft
Very nice indeed. I love using long float rods. I just couldn’t put that sort of coin down on one I’ve never tried before.
You know the marksman’s float rods very well so there was no risk there 👍🏻

Is it really well balanced for its length?

I found the opinion about Hardy Marksmen rods largely divided. People either love them or hate them. Some love them because of their action, and some hate them because they think they are overpriced average rods. So, for that sort of money, you should try it before you buy it. On the other hand, these rods hold their value very well; you won't lose anything if you don't like them.

Won't be using it until mid Sept when I travel to Dorset as Dave Taylor kindly picked it up for me. Its complete with the brass bits.

I know the 14ft is a wonderful rod to use.

It might be a case of swopping my usual
3000 Stradic for the Aero to get the balance I require.

But isn’t 14ft specialist is equivalent to a specimen float? I remember its line rating is 8lb. Although to me it’s an all round float rod.
I understand the 13ft was in Specimen or Specialist model range.

14 and 15 both Specialist only.

I have landed carp over 20lb on the 14ft BUT a 8lber that suddenly dived under my feet snapped one, since repaired and 13 foot 9in hes now🙄

The 15 is for my winter Hereford Town
Silvers fishing mainly. No jungle warfare.

Yes, the 14 and 15 are specialist only. But 14 has line rating to 8lb, which is the same as 13ft specimen. 15 has the same line rating as 13ft specialist. (Btw, in hardy catalog, when they describe the spec of 14 specialist rod, they wrote specimen 14ft, a mistake maybe)

I am sure 15 will be a wonderful tool to use for silvers.

Hi Graham. I have the hardy brochure for 2009 saved. If you would like a copy pin me with your email no and I will send it straight on to you. Alec
if any other hardy supero fans out there I have also a fair number of the pages from their 2012 catalogue when the supero was launched too again available on line. Just say what you want and if I have it happy to ping to you.

yes definitely different.. on it way.

Just done a count up of my rods and it's embarrassing!

I'm being kind to myself by saying I've got issues, but the count to my mind is bordering, if not passed a long time ago, the ridiculous stage! 😂

Although I have to confess there was a time I actually enjoyed 'collecting' them.
I wonder if anyone else is in the same boat as me?

I know I can't be alone on this issue!😂

The main issue I have about selling on, is the fact they're good decent rods, some of them no longer available, others are custom builds.

I've sold rods in the past & have regretted doing so ever since. An example of these were my entire Seer collection.

So how do you go about making a decision on what to sell, when you know that the quality around is no longer there! (If you wanted to replace one in the future)
And your not wanting to regret selling them in the first place. (been there!)
And you know, your not likely to get a decent return on them, as money is understandably a bit tight for many of us at the moment....

I'd be interested if theres others out their, that are at the stage I'm at, knowing they're in need to thin out their rods, but can't make that step....

Sounds like a counselling session! 🤣🤣
I think on my last count I had 24 barbel rods and 16 reels which are all brand new as I'm still using my korum neoteric twin tips I bought 15 years ago, I definitely need help
