As Dave mentions about reverse osmosis. I think there are already some water company reverse osmosis de-salination plants already built in the UK, but only used as a back up if ever needed. They are only metal tanks in the ones i have seen on TV recently and not a massive £250million plant like at Beckton. So why haven't they all done this as a back up, and as Dave say's, they aint that costly either.
