Floats

Thank you so much Andrew, appreciated, if you could give us a heads up when the river is looking good, that would be great. Sorry to hear about your latest accident, get well soon mate. šŸ‘
Thanks Derek, it’ll be OK eventually! Why don’t you let me know when you want to fish and just cancel if the river is out? Recently winter has been good for the most part for either barbel or chub as we haven’t had much snow.

Hi Derek, good to hear from you. I have no plans for a BFW fish-in but we could sort one. I would suggest in the winter TBH. You and your brother are welcome anytime just message or call me. Both knees are functioning brilliantly, I cannot believe the change they have made, no peg is too far :). Trouble is, although well timed as the fishing season had just ended I fell over at work and have damaged my bicep tendons and rotator cuff in my shoulder
Rotator Cuff Andy. Painful.
That'll be 4 months then!

Push to get it sorted, Andrew. I'm in for the op in October, after having one done four years ago, which ironically, I've damaged again. Up until that point, my shoulder was a lot better. So will probably need a revision operation on that.

The pain at night is the worst for me. Very difficult to get comfortable, and being woken up in pain a couple of times a night.

All the best with it. šŸ‘

Yes that's exactly it, the pain at night can be excruciating and means a decent night is never on the cards. Good luck with the op and keep me posted as to how it goes!

Cheers

Andy

No. it just drags on. I've met a few people with the injury including my GP! Hopefully more injections next week
I have had this issue for nearly a year now. I have seen the physio team at work and as painful now as when it first started. I think I have just got accustomed to it and the pain.

I assume it is not getting any better or worse then? :(
Swings and roundabouts Andrew, sometimes it feels like it is improving but then gets really painful again. The only good thing now is I generally get a good nights sleep, at times it was waking me up through the night. It seems odd but I used to find it easier to sleep if I was actually laid with my weight on the shoulder. It is a very painful condition. It just started on a fishing trip in France last year, no idea why as never did anything to cause it.

I also found it strange that lying on it was best despite being contra to advice. I now sleep sat up most of the night as that no longer works. My GP has the injury caused by cricket, a mate of mine from 'floater fishing for carp', carp fishing obviously bad for you :p

Many thanks for the floats Andy. They are lovely. I can't wait to get out on the river and try them. Was a pleasure meeting you. Also thanks for the advice on how to fish them. Also the heads up on not fishing near Maisemore weir with the e.a. regulations. I don't want to fall foul of the rules and was completely unaware of them.

Hi Etienne, great to meet you and thanks for the jar of honey and glad you like the floats! I'll look forward to hearing how you get on with them and it would be nice to have a fish together sometime.

Cheers Andy

Hi Andy, I'm just waiting for the river to come up abit before I try my luck. Of course feedback will be incoming mate. And definitely I'm up for a fishing trip when you're free, just let me know šŸ‘

Thanks Etienne

The ā€œbigā€ floats of Andy’s are superb if you like trotting at distance in fast water.
slow them right down and they work an absolute treat.
You’ll see em comfortably at 60 plus yards no problem also. I’ve caught hundreds of barbel chub and bream on those big floats. A firm favorite of mine

Thanks for the advice Rich, appreciate it. I'm itching to get out and try them. They are lovely floats, very nicely made and big for big baits. Very visible at distance no doubt. I'll report back on my findings in due course. With the rain coming, hopefully won't be too long.

Andy I have to say your 'big floats' are absolutely superb. I fished a 8.5g one today on the Wye and loved every minute of my day. Didn't catch any barbel but had plenty of chub. These floats cast lovely, hold back perfectly and provide sensitive bite detection. And are so visible at distance. I fished over a bed of hemp with large baits, mussels, prawns but the old favourite bacon grill was what I caught most on. I did as you told me and ,weighted the float with 7.5g of olivettes between two large gripper stops, with a size 8 swivel then hook length with a dropper shot before the hook. With a large bait it was weighted perfectly. I'll definitely stock up on some more floats when I see you next week.

That's great to hear and thanks for the review! I'll text you to sort a good time to come over this week.

Cheers Andy
