Float rod recommendations

Evening all,

Could anyone recommend a float rod that's strong enough to cope with good sized barbel but not too much of a poker! Preferably 14/15 ft. I don't mind paying a bit if it's worth the money.

Many thanks

I've had doubles out on four different float rods, Harrison GTi SU 15', Shimano Aerocast 15' Specimen Match, Shimano Technium DF 15' Specimen Match and finally, a Shimano Catana CX Specialist Float 13'. I still have three of them.;):)

I have been using the 13' Drennan Power Float rod for Waggler fishing on the river Severn and stick float fishing on the river Dane and it as a great rod, loaded with 8lb mainline it has plently of backbone and is nice and light and I have landed many Barbel on it up to 9-8 with no problem.
I keep thinking of getting a 14-15' rod but am so happy with the Drennan that I have never changed.

Thanks for the replies guys, plenty to have a look at. Ive had hold of some of the hardy rods (not the 15ft though)in my local shop. Does anyone know how they compair with the GTI?

I have to agree with Andy F. i got one from Bob and the GTI is as far as i am concerned the end of a long seach for a purpose built barbel trotting rod, ps they also make great rods for floatwork with carp too:)

If its lightness, crisp action and power go for the daiwa 14ft extra power or a 15ft aerocast. If you want a rod that could probably handle for an hour, a dated blank and not so crisp go for the GTI 15ft SU. Comes free with STEROIDS.
Its to the point but through experience....

Much appreciated Jon, I'd rather be told straight! I don't mind spending a lot of money on a rod if you get value for money. I know I will use it for a long time but I'd still like to have one in my hands before I buy one! I'll have a look at the daiwas.
Was using a friends shakespeare 15ft rod that felt heavy, put a 3oz cage feeder onto the bottom of the handle and gave it a squeeze to keep it in place, the rod was transformed and was lovely to use after that!

I know TFG kit gets a lot of stick on here but I've got the TSI 15' float rod and I think it's great for barbel. it's very light, can easily hold it all day and it's got plenty of power. The r.r.p is a joke but if you can pick one up for £100 I'd recommend it.
