Hi all what is it with some people basically not sticking to any rules at all?? Been to the Trent for a run out today only t find two EE's fishing in which case Made me a little angry, I walked over to them and explained they are not under any circumstances allowed to fish a river from march 15th to June 16th I told them to pack up and leave which to be fair to them they didn't argue and rightly packed up and went!!! I'm sure if that was a British person we would get the book thrown at us!!!
Regards

Oh yeah do apologize, I didnt say that as I didn't think it was appropriate to tell him that mate!

hey wayne, i can understand you getting a little hot under the collar, but just think how many spawning barbel get caught by salmon anglers at this time...:D

As you say that they pack up as soon as you informed then, do you think (amongst those who do know better) its down to a lack of education for some people? The only channel i've ever seen a rod license advert on is discovery shed, and there's no real mention of the closed season details in the small print. Joe bloggs seeing a fishing rod on a car boot sale fancying a go probably wouldn't even consider that there maybe be a "fishing season". I'm talking in general terms now of people fishing rivers out of season, not just EEs.

Hi David, fully understand things like that do occur same as anglers who target eels, it just annoys me how theres god knows how many anglers that fully abide by the rules and regulations mate. so personally I was well within my rights to ask him to leave

100% Agree Sam, on the license it doesn't state that course fishing on rivers is except from march to June so personally i think it should be printed on the license if the environment agency were to make more adverts and make it well known, it would affect license holders by paying more for a licence!!

i'm sure someone posted up an ea video a couple years ago, and it had a break down of where our money went. i seem to remember a large chunk went on "advertising". not very effective it must be said....

First bit of strong spring sun, southern river, a walk along it, seeing three very much local geezers legering and doing a few cans and a reeking 'J' only yesterday. I went home and made a phonecall (don't use a mobile), not wanting to be filled in by my fellow British citizens on the bank.............

The main difference being though Dave, they get put back not eaten !

Ian.

Really? I'd go so far as to say 90-odd per-cent of Wye barbel are discreetly "disappeared" by salmon men, and a lesser, but still significant percentage, on other rivers: sense of ownership / proprietorship, generally acting as God and ancient prejudice being things that no handling code will ever erase.

No doubt that some barbel and other coarse fish get thrown up the bank by salmon anglers when they are not wanted on a salmon fishery...as many were in the old days!
What sickens me is when a salmon angler does catch a barbel full of spawn in the close season and poses for a picture and weighing, to where it could easily drop 8-10,000 eggs on his lap, thus losing a whole year class of young recruitment and future generations. Don't forget the male barbel can also drop the milt the same way thus causing a similar problem where any laid eggs are not fertilised!
In my opinion, there are anglers out there who are/would deliberately target coarse fish via a migratory license in the close season or use it to access venues to spot locations when spawning or for pre-baiting up for the coming legal season, to get one step ahead of others who abide with the critical close season!

well wayne, think you did the right thing, by asking them to leave, there was an article in a local news papper saying some polish anglers were poaching on private fisheries ,catching and cooking fish or the banking, carp, bream, but to these people have ruin there waters in there country, and think that they can do it in in ours,

Well in there Wayne. I applaud anybody to tell the EA if the closed season is being breached, but before you get verbal think twice and weigh up the situation. Better than turning a blind eye.

Well done wayne mate they need stopping before its to late theres alot of ees on my local river and they get on my t**s.

This is a very good point, most casual, part time fishermen have little or no idea when the close season is, so someone coming in from another country is hardly going to know either.

Unfortuanitly I didn't have the relevant number to report this incident at the time, but there was no way I was going to let them carry on fishing it sickens me to know most EE's chuck the catch on a BBQ don't get me wrong it isn't just EE's who disrespect our fisheries or fish but there's some genuine EE anglers which Iv met in the past I totally having nothing against people enjoying catching the fish photographing weighing etc providing it's all done safely for the fish and the fish are out of the water and released as quic as possible giving the fish plenty of time to recover and that fish will give someone else the pleasure of catching that's my view on how it should be the main thing is the fishes safety and to abide by rules and regulations if any doesn't stick to the rules il always have something to say
