DAIWA Sensor line problems

Hyper Sensor for barbel fishing mainly the tidal Trent and the orange sea sensor for cod fishing have been fine for me on the bulk plastic spools and no damage to the spools in transit post wise for quite some time.

I tried to buy a bulk spool last week and it was all out of stock and the shop didn’t know when it was coming back into stock. Maybe it’s the plastic spool problems

I’m also looking at alternatives, I bought some ESP syncro XP but it doesn’t stay on the spool well so I’m looking for something else for my Barbel fishing

I doubt it will have anything to do with the plastic spools. I got two bulk spools of 6lb sensor recently from a local tackle shop.
They didn't mention any issues getting hold of it.
If I couldn't get hold of the normal sensor, I would try the hyper sensor. Failing that, I would go for Bayer Perlon, which I do like. The downside with Perlon, "for me", is I think it's expensive.

Have also had this happen after elongated storage in a cool dark box . . .good budget line for backing but would never use it in anger these days - much better alternatives available . . .

I had a go with some RidgeMonkey FluoroCast Fluorocarbon line the other day as a friend has switched over on his carp gear. It casts really well and is low stretch so I thought this might be a good option for our Barbel work. Any one else tried this on the river as it seem good on the spool and casting was very good?

There was a story doing the rounds on other angling forums that the current shortage was due to the factory burning down.

No idea if its hearsay/total bollocks 🙂
Yeah saw that too. There seem to be two main stories going around about the lack brown sensor, factory fire or tightening of Japanese regulations.

I might start selling it on the street corner in little bags.

I use it all the time, it's my go-to mono. I've tried loads of different lines for trotting, and the original sensor has proved to be unrivalled for my style of fishing.

I can't remember where it was, but ive heard the same story.

How would the tightening of Japanese regulations come into it, Daniel?

Hi Ian, i switched from the old sensor to the hyper when it first came out. I find it feels smoother threw the fingers, and slightly lower in diameter for the same strength.

Thanks, Derek.
I found it a little odd that the 6lb Hyper is about the same diameter as the original 4lb sensor.
The reason I found it odd was that the 4lb original sensor breaks at about 6lb... if you get my drift on that?
Obviously, it may be a totally different line, but I'm suspicious LOL.

If I remember rightly, the Hyper comes in two different colours, the original sensor colour and a grey colour.

Yeah, after testing sensor and hyper sensor in 8,10&12lb I think the same as Ian, hyper is labled with a more accurate breaking strain

I heard the tightening of Japanese quality regulations as the other story too. Apparently they had to check the line diameter for every meter produced and weren’t geared up to do so. Therefore they had to suspend production.

So perhaps we are now dealing with two total bollocks stories 🙂

Wouldn't surprise me if they are just bullshine.
Regarding the reliability/quality of the line, which I've had, I haven't noticed anything wrong with it.
I'll ask my local tackle shop and see if he has any thoughts on the rumours lol.

Anyone using silstar match team?
I’ve used it for years on my trotting reels/pins, in 5.5lb, 6.6lb and 7.9lb, without issue. Always considered it 100% reliable.

However, my local tackle shop, suddenly stopped stocking it. On enquiring why, I was informed they’d had quite a few complaints as the diameter was suddenly and massively overstated, meaning people were losing fish!

According to the shop manager, he told me to use Daiwa Tournament Monofilament instead. Similar in diameter to the Silstar and he reckons its the best trotting line he’s used.

Lovely across all diameters Jon ?
I See the 15 is 0.32mm
I think so, I use the 8, 10 and 12 for my feeder fishing, roach, Brean, tench and carp too. Goes through the runners so smooth.
Another one to look at is Colmic Feeder Pro, this was my go to float line for Trent barbel last year, its staying on aswell. 0.2mm was 12lb and 0.187mm was around 10lb, well worth a look.
Tbh there's so many...
