crabtree - quest tomorrow (24/02/13) @ 9.00pm

was nt bad, a more traditonal way of fishing, centre pin and quill floats, , liked it

I watched it, never again, did you notice that he netted the first fish in a Greys spoon landing net, which was placed on the unhooking mat, the next shot revealed the fish in a different landing net, a green one which was squared off at the end, then we had him leaving his rods unattended only to run back when they went off, i must say that it was very poor editing, if Chris Yates or someone similar was used re-tracing Mr Crabtrees methods, split cane rods and old centre pins, then that would have been more interesting, i just hate fake angling programmes.
Brian.

Thanks a lot Jeff, i have been on the river for over 3 hours this afternoon, and i shall be in the newly painted ROYALTY INN Tomorrow at 12.00, we shall all be there.........are you going to travel up for the new opening.
Brian.

Was put off by the constant Mr Crabtree Mr Crabtree Mr Crabtree

I think you have to accept that there is never going to be an angling show on TV that is going to be quite to the palette of the angling enthusiast. What I think it did do was show a good face of angling to a non fishing audience.Angling is not exactly the top of the bill when it comes to TV shows and it never will if the programme is not acceptable to non anglers.I think this was the success with the John Wilson shows. If you want descent angling shows, you still going to have to buy them and that's still no guarantee.

I didn't see the programme but I have recorded Sunday's repeat.
I would have thought it be easier these days with the numbers of channels available to purchase these programmes to find good ones.
I think the magic that Passion for Angling showed was similar to Wilson's - it showed many of the facets of the sport we enjoy rather than just the main one.
I was glued to the screen watching Wilson don his homemade wetsuit to show the viewer the network of rhizomes under the surface of the water that he was fishing.

Regards

Damian

Being somewhat advantaged in years, I can recall Bernard Venables providing the TV commentary for Dick Walker carp fishing. Beats this fake Crabtree nonsense.

And Rhys you're right some of the Matt Hayes shows (Quest on Freeview) are quite good. The Mullet fishing with bread flake sticks in my mind. And Mick Brown ("Matt's mate") catching anything is always good. Trefor has been on it too; infact several times, including trundling on a clear low-water Teme.

I do like the Matt Hayes shows, though I was talking more specifically about the wild fisherman Norway he just did, if you've seen it?

No but I have fished in the Norwegian Arctic Circle if that counts - Polar Bears, Sea Eagles and Arctic Catfish!

Just a reminder for those who missed the programme on Thursday it is repeated tomorrow (Sunday 27th) at 8pm on Quest TV, Channel 38 Freeview.

Re John Bailey's Mr Crabtree'' TV programme . I thought it was a good attempt at getting at the essence of the Crabtree era , and the magic of fishing . I still reckon he should have gone at it with traditional tackle , rather than the subtle modern Hardy rod and reel placement .The young lad seemed clued up, I reckon he could have managed that tench without John confiscating his tackle . You can tell Mr Bailey was a teacher in a former life!None anglers who I have spoken to said it worked for them , which in terms of getting angling across to a wider public must count as a success .

I think it was confused as to what to do, stick to what it says on the tin. or just well ...to hell with it let the kid have his way. Which the lad did, and very well too, but I reckon Trading Standards should have a word with Mr Bailey.
But, it's a series about fishing, so I will always watch.

Just caught the Roach fishing on the Wensum programme.
Quite pleasant tho the almost constant use of the ratchet on the Hardy reel was irritating!
