Announcement

I'll second that Dave. I think it's important to point out that this is indeed far from just being an on-line forum. The overall aims far exceed just that.

Hopefully anyone reading the 'mission statement' and constitution will see the ABF's aims and aspirations. The more members the merrier.

Hi men,

Daniel , I mean it's a small cost to look in ,and gave a look ?. I'm not sure where it's going , but if , in the end, it helps barbel anglings future, and represents it's memberships views then I will concider paying a membership free. Splintered representation of angling will mean we are never taken serious , something we should be working towards ?.

As for joining, i'm not so sure. I've discovered that since i made the transition from the old BFW to the new i've become a lot more traceable on the internet (by anyone). If i joined the ABF with my own credentials that would probably double my exposure again, which isn't something i'm keen on. This is one of the reasons why my BFW posts are kept to a minimum.

Traceable how and what have you got to worry about unless your a keyboard warrior.
Personally i think its a good idea that bfw and the newly founded abf have switched to full names, people are less likely to hijack threads and perposely cause disruption etc if they have to do it in there own name. its good that everyone knows who everyone is, its more socialable.
good luck to the new abf hope it all works out well for you
cheers

Transparency please.

In agreement of what others have mentioned about the constitution being available upfront before a potential member joins. I do feel that this level of transparency in regard to a constitution, combined with a clear privacy policy is fundamental to any organisation out there particularly one that is accepting fees regardless of amount for membership / joining.

Considering the amount of controversy that seems to follow the BS ,and the reasons it transpires, this group might like to consider how they can reduce or completely mitigate any similar issues by being completely transparent from the start or it may face similar issues as many others before it. That would be a shame in the light of the groups best intentions.

John and others who are concerned about the constitution.

We felt that it was an internal document and was something that the existing members had agreed to. We also do not want to encourage the discussion of ABF politics on other people's forums, as it is improper to do so beyond the most basic level.

In saying that we are keen to be responsive to people's wishes so I will ask the existing membership if they mind us making the constitution publicly viewable. I will need 24 hours to give people time to comment.

Is that fair enough?

As for privacy I can categorically state that the ABF do not keep any details other than the user name and registration email on a file and that information will NEVER be divulged to third parties.

Regards

Conrad

Fair play to you Conrad and the rest of the ABF membership.

Similar organisations are all too quick to get on the defensive in the face of this type of feedback. Instead, you've shown yourselves to be responsive and reasonable. Personally, I think this casts a very positive light on your young organisation and is enought to convince me to sign up.

Keep up the good work.

Not at all.

Like i said Jerry, if thats the measure that was required then its a sad indicament of society and what the internet has done.

Some of us don't appreciate the big brother nature that is prevalent now. Some of us just like to mind our business. I come here to talk about fishing and keep abreast with what the score is with the rivers i fish, not for publicity. I'm not keen that people who i don't bother with can track me down.

Is there a good reason why this thread should not be on the "Other Organisation" board as the BS R&C thread has just been moved there???.....sorry...deleted!!

By the way...to me and thousands of others the ABF stands for the "Army Benevolent Fund"!!!

Rich,

Yes there is a good reason; it is the launch of a new barbel organisation, which i think is very relevent considering this is a barbel related web site.

I am sure that the future events, fish-ins and other ABF related matter, will be placed on the other organisations board as does the BS, BCC, Barbel Specialists and any other group that wishes to advise BFW members of anything that may be of interest.

C'mon, fellas, forget warring over the ever-proliferating Socs, Orgs & Trusts in all fields of Angling now, and try to get out doing what got you started in first place: fish, rivers, mystery, solitude but never loneliness, magic........

Or in the words of Mr Presley: A little less conversation, a little more action...

Interesting.

I will be watching to see how things develop over the next few years.

Good luck to the new group and all that sail in her.

Well Rich, in your words: "Going great guns!! Thanks everybody!!"
So why the apparent bitterness?
Anyhow I'm sure no-one will object, so here is a plug for your society's auction: https://barbel.co.uk/site/vbulletin/forum/showthread.php?p=39968#post39968

The second part of your post has been answered clearly by others but just to reiterate the point; B.S = Bull Sh*t, plain and simple.:D

I get the distinct impression you and other BS commitee members are completely oblivious to the harm you're inflicting upon your beloved society by pathetic rants of nothingness on internet forums, I for one am totally put off of joining and I know that I'm not alone in my way of thinking.
(Worth considering in the future, or not?)

The membership are overwhelmingly in favour of making the constitution public so it has been done.
