I had luck for my second trip this year with a few pop up worms. I had forgotten my foam and simply injected two of the worms with air. This seemed to work, but only landed three Tench. One of about 5lbs and two of only 3lbs.
Good luck, especially with offloading some of your rods. I know that even if left unused, it's hard to part with them. Either for sentimental reasons, or in my case the 'well you new know, I might need it someday...' scenario.
I can't compare as I have not used it personaly, but I have read lots of positive reviews and will check it out when next in a store that has one. The Drennan Series 7 Specialist Avon Quiver @ 1.75lbs has caught my eye however. It's just hard to justify the purchase of one currently due to...
They are very light and well balanced. Considering they are feeder rods they provide surprising tactile feedback.
The blank itself seems stiff initially but once you are into a decent sized fish it will give a nice progressive action that I found to be forgiving.
When priced under the £70 mark...
I sometimes riddle off the maize flour, put them in a bag vacuumed shut, place in the freezer for about for about 30 mins (until they have become motionless but not frozen) and place in my fridge. The cooler the fridge the better, about 1°C is perfect. For me they tend to live for at the very...
I tend to lure fish for Perch, but last year had amazing luck catching them when targeting chub. I found the Greys Toreon Tactical Quivertip range really fun as they provide a nice amount of feedback and are seriously light.
I particularly found the shorter 8ft1 model the most fun, assuming rod...
A quick thank you for the advice on fishing Brooklands Lake in Dartford. It certainly was well worth the £15.00 fee and seemed like a water with real potential and some where I'm likely to visit again. In fact potential achieved with my first few Tench ever. So a real success.
I was worried at...
A Barbel over 12lbs, my first Tench and a Grayling over 1.5lbs (I've not done well on those). Those are the targets I've set myself for the year; I feel they are all achievable. 🤞
Same on the Wandle. I've spotted a few Ghosties, 2 white Koi and a large orange Koi that often can be found opposite the Savacentre eating bread thrown in by passersbye feeding the ducks. They must have been placed there by someone.
I'm also aware that two catfish had been released into the...
Stunning Common. I've only ever caught 4 carp myself and always by luck, they were never the targetted species. On light tackle they certainly get the heart racing. You must have had a real adreneline rush, how long did it take you to land?
Thanks Bill, I think Brooklands would be the easiest for me and being so large more challenging (which I prefer). Tuesday looks like good conditions and if I can find the time will go then. Otherwise the weather returns to Northerley/Easterleys and generally average conditions. Having said that...
I have been fortunate and hope it's not just beginner's luck. However I'm aware of a 13lb and 14.5lb having been caught there this year on a different stretch.
I'll likely be near to the Darent in the coming weeks. I've never targeted Tench and heard that within range, one of the few potential...
So more like this?
Even though I am "really" holding out the edited one; it was my first Barbel of 2022 and the first time I was specifically targeting them. I clearly got a bit carried away. But at least they are straight 😅
Thanks for the positive feedback and I will try to keep the tail...
A had a carpist who passed by and took the pics for me. He wanted me to hold it out far more than that. He was getting a little frustrated with me for not holding it so that the tail was straight, showing its true length.
This was my first season for Barbel. It only lasted 4-5 weeks; first due to delay with Royal Mail deliverying my reel and then on my first session with my new Powermesh, which broke in the first hour. I can only imagine it was dropped whilst in the wharehouse and weakened it somehow (I was only...
I was looking into getting some hiking boots suitable for mud. So many complaining about the goretex not working within days of owning them. I can't decide if I should bother with it at all, but I don't want to go down the leather boot option for various reasons.
I have only just read this post but wanted to add something in relation to Goretex (or similar) clothing.
It may be a fabric that stops rain from getting in but allows perspiration out however:
Raindrops are made up of many molecules of water, while sweat is in the form of vapour, which is...
